Default Waht is Casey talking about?

Here I go with a Vasquez thread again

In the last question of the post game interview (right at the end)

Casey was asked about GV's contribution tonight. I was somewhat confused with the answer. Casey said that Vasquez played more minutes tonight because he played better defense than the first game.

First of all he did not seam to play better defense at all to me. More importantly, he almost did not play against Williams or Livingstone tonight, therefore he did not have to mark them. Finally, he actually played 4 minutes less tonight in comparison to the first game. In other words, I have no Idea what DC was talking about?

Yes but was that not a consequence of him not marking Williams or Livingstone today?

Yeah, Casey is just trying to give credit to the players. Reality is Casey did a much better job hiding Vasquez this game.

Vasquez was on an island with Williams 5 or 6 times yesterday and did a fantastic job on him.

There is no hiding against Brooklyn, they have 4 guys they go to in match-ups; 1 through 4. Vasquez has to guard one of them, and last night he did a fantastic job.

Somebody scores one basket in an iso situation and the guy guarding is a horrible defender for the next two weeks on Raptorsforum.

Alan Anderson made one three pointer with a hand in his face, got fouled the next possession, and then dished to plumlee who got fouled and missed two free throws and in the game thread people were going off on Demar like he was getting lit up by Kobe going for 80 points. Alan Anderson is a good player and made a tough shot. Demar isn't a great defender but did a great job fouling on the next two possessions and making Brooklyn earn it.

Vasquez and Demar have made solid defense plays throughout the first two games despite not completely shutting out all-star players. If they can shut out Joe Johnson and Deron Williams I guarantee we will win this series.

Casey definitely made attempts in the 4th especially to hide DD and Vasquez on Kirilenko as much as possible. And it worked. Sure, Vasquez also did a little better against Williams than he did the first game (couldn't do worse...), but the biggest difference to me was Casey. Good on him.

Oh, and if the best argument you have for a player's defense is "but it was superstar Alan Anderson" - you've got a really big problem. Anderson made a three pointer with a LATE hand in his face, because DD was sagging. Then blew by DD and got fouled. Just to make sure that's clear, Alan Anderson (yes, him) blew by DD. DD did a good job fouling Plumlee on that third play.

Anderson is a solid offensive player. When he hits that three with the defender a step off of him playing the drive, he's a tough guard.

Anderson is passable. Borderline solid. Not above average by any stretch.

He's very capable; he had 8 games with over 20+ points last year including 35 in one game. Led the Nets in scoring with 22 for a solid win against the Spurs this year.

He's definitely proven he's capable of having big offensive games. He's shown he has that confidence, and clearly Kidd has that confidence in him to go to him three straight possessions in a row.

I would have confidence in him too if DeMar was defending him. He scored 3 points in 20 minutes, all of which came in the 30 seconds DeMar was defending him.
