See, I liked vince up until he started quitting on the team, but I heard an interesting point on the radio this morning.

Although Vince was seen as putting Toronto on "the map" it can also be argued that when he left, he not only took this place off the map, but he arguably started the trend free agents not wanting to sing here trend.....it was worded a bit better on the radio, but you get the point.

I wouldn't mind Vince and DD at the SG spot, just saying.

People fed into the BS the media drummed up. All VC asked for was patience when recovering from injury and the fans heckled him because he was a bit soft. There was no winning for that guy. Case and point,he went to his College graduation before Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Semi's in 01/02,made it back in time for the game, where he nearly posted a triple double but because he missed the game winning shot,"he's an idiot and selfish". Fans act like if he didn't go it's a given that he would've dropped 50 points in a win. He could've easily stayed and then have a crappy game too,I wonder what folks would've said then?

The media asked dumb questions like " why don't you dunk anymore?" So he gave them a silly answer to match. The funny thing is they remember him saying "because I don't want to dunk",but they don't remember him dunking multiple times the very next game. When you talk to people they still think that he stopped dunking from then on,that's selective memory.

The mistake was made when management said they were committed to winning and offered Carter to have input in personnel related decisions. When he suggested Dr. J for GM,they brushed it off,you don't lie to your star/franchise player(who was arguably the face of the league at the time). Then they hire Babcock, who drafts Arraujo (you sure wanna win with that pick). Believe me,LeBron James would've done the same thing.

Toronto won't have success until they let this go,he did more good then bad for the city and franchise. Unless you're trying to give the team an on court advantage by booing former players to throw them off their game, that stuff is played out and makes the fanbase look insecure and sensitive

FUCK Carter and FUCK WHAT HE THINKS.

This is years ago now, why are people talking like it's fresh. He helped the franchise, he quit, he left, we moved on and so did he.

Former Vince Carter head coach and body slam recipient Sam Mitchell was on the Fan today talking with Tim and Sid. He says that Carter never demanded or wanted a trade from Toronto

He said that Vince came to talk to him the night before the trade and told him that he decided he wanted to stay. Very interesting interview. I suggest you listen to it guys and gals!

Reality is he hurt the team. That much is true, however it happened it did. Management before and after though have done far worse to the organization than any player could. This is all past now so I'm not understanding why a justification still needs to be had. Whatever side you're on there is no convincing the other.

No sides need to be taken, but it is an interesting interview and the fact that this news is coming out now is odd. Tim and Sid also interviewed Rob Babcock later in that show:

For general managers the unwritten rule of a verbal agreement is pretty big, even though some gms have reneged on deals on the past. I think I would have tried to work it out. He was the FRANCHISE PLAYER. We had him under contract for roughly 4 more years or so. I think a vet GM would have handled the situation a lot better and likely got more in return for VC. At one point we had the most popular basketball player on this planet (led all-star balloting year after year). He put Toronto on the map. The thing that makes me sad is that we're probably not going to get a player like that for a long time.

bring him back for what? he's old, and isnt worth much money.
i just think its convenient that as he will be a FA, he wants to be wanted... and wants to come back here. why does he want back? probably because he knows his stock is so low that he wont really be pursued as a FA, and will do anything to continue his career.

He was the biggest draw in every other arena.... bigger than LBJ and Griffindor... and without the kia. LBJ was afraid to even enter the dunk competition for that matter. But Vince electrified every where he went. It was sick.
