does anyone here seriously think Carter's name belongs on this sacred list ?...in the grand scheme of things, Carter had a couple of shining moments (and 1 of those is a dunk contest...hell, i've seen better dunks on youtube from a bunch of nobodys)...in the really big picture he was (and is) a good player with very mediocre results
nothing personal against the man, but i feel it would be a slap in the face to the other HOFers if he was ever inducted
imo there is a certain level of excellence that must be achieved before consideration...and he has come nowhere near that level over his career

do yourselves a favour and take another visit to the NBA History thread...read what the "greats" achieved...then come back here and tell me you still think he deserves to be included with those names...bet you can't

look at these names...imho Carter doesn't measure up to any of them

Bernard's not in the hall yet? Damn.....

Why all the concern about VC getting in? When Bosh retires we'll have our 1st Raptor in the hall. Don't fret!

I would put Vince behind Grant Hill and Manu Ginobli. I look at a guy like Shawn Marion and I'm not really convinced that Carter has had a better career than the Matrix. Those are three names I just came up with in 30 seconds.

Carter being in the HOF would be setting the bar low...but I wouldn't be shocked or disappointed if he made it.

He has put up numbers. You can mention anyone you want that is already in the hall. Many of them are better and had more success than Carter will. But they are still numbers. Guys like Charles Barkley, Dan Marino an Marcel Dionne and may never have won championships, and Vince Carter is not the athlete they are, but I don't consider them less worthy of the hall because they never won.

It's too bad for Vince he didn't get drafted by a team that had a "big 3" or that allowed him to be Robin to someone's Batman. He could have pulled a Scottie Pippen and came up looking like some superman. Pippen was a great player, but over-rated. If I put him in Vince's place, I don't see him achieving more, yet he's some deity.

Nash is 2 x MVP and will probably 3rd in all time assists when it's all set and done yet he's below Bosh lol.

You can't compare Pippen to Vince. That's crazy. You know when Jordan first retired Pippen led the Bulls to a 55 win season.

The algorithm doesn't include MVP awards for some reason. Or else Nash would be close to around 99.99%

Did he win a championship himself? Was he MVP? That seems like the measuring stick here. I don't want Pippen on the Bulls. Put his ass on the Raptors. We champions yet?

If I take any other sport and put a guy near the top 20 when they are done, he is in the HOF. How come this ends up being difficult to imagine here?

Only referring to end of career point totals in that regard.

It's just not like other sports, and in any case guys like Marino and Barkley won an awful lot. Vince was around .500 throughout. And he did very little in the playoffs. And he played with some good players and on good teams. He underachieved almost every year.

He might make it, but he is in tight with a lot of guys that got the results consistently, and many of them at his position. Again - the NBA hall looks at the team aspects much more than any other sport. Usually the numbers come with that and vis a versa. In this case it's telling that so much scoring lead to so little winning.

thats not a bad comparison, except for his openly admitted lack of badass desire to always win. Nique might not have played great D, but he never admitted to not giving his all. Sadly, this is something i don't think Carter will ever leave in the past.

That said, we do at times worship the past a bit too much. Carter was an impact guy, he held the league but its nuts for four years.... did he win? Nope, he was on a pretty bad team. Magic Johnson came into the league and was on a pretty damn good team.

Sometimes timing and luck create legacy so you have to be fair, Carter has some pretty serious basketball accomplishments, just didn't win. He played on a couple almost Nets teams that were steamrolled close to the end by Shaq and Wade. He had a nice year after that averaging 20 5 and 5. something only guys like Kobe have done. To be honest, I have no problems with him in the Hall, the NBA is a professional entertainment company, and to be honest, he entertained like mad!

And his reward was earning over $100M (in contracts and endorsements) over his career.

The Hall should be reserved for those players who entertained AND worked their asses off to be the best players that they could be IMO.

Wilkins was part of an elite team. He brought it every night. Vince just simply did not. He was damn fun to watch when he did, but I know I was always looking for that extra bounce in his step and sense of competitiveness before I had a sense that it was going to be fun, or just frustrating. And then that sense would all too often leave me halfway through the third quarter. Mentally he was in an entirely different league from a guy like Nique.

What elite team was Nique on..... hold on there mister, I came into this sport as a die hard Hawks fan, Nique was my fav forever. Those Hawks squads were no better than the Nets Squads Vince played for.

both were decent also rans.

I think its a Toronto complex personally. Vince has a shot at the hall and the Boo birds don't like him and his personality. Personally I'd say he is on the fringe and may very well make the hall.

The only think Nique has stat wise over Vince is the 40+ He dropped vs. Celtics in Semis. Hawks still lost
