Default Vecsey: Smitch Out, D'Antonio In?

Ugh .... personally I think we're kidding ourselves if we think D'Antonio is going to do any better than Sam. Thoughts?

Once alleged imperfections start to leak out in the local media, which is the case in both circumstances, time is about to expire. A few months ago, before the Raptors were to play the Lakers, he addressed the team by telling them, "We'll worry about the guy who got 81 in a second, but first I want to talk about Andrew Bynum and how he killed us last time." A hush engulfed the locker room. "Hey, coach," Chris Bosh interrupted. "Bynum's been out for weeks with an injury."
Good to see Sam up to date with the other team's scouting report.

Ugh, why this love affair with D'Antoni all of a sudden. He's not a great coach.

Geez, IF we make a coaching change I want someone who has some credibility, someone who has done something in this league. I think if we wanted to make a coaching change we should have done it last season when we could have gotten a guy like PJ Carlessimo (I think he's a good head coach) but now we seem to be looking at "name" guys with no substance. Let's just stick with Smitch and see where it carries us. If we continue to struggle next season (let's say till December/January) then make a change but right now, we've basically preformed up to our actual expectations.

I'm not too sure on Doug Collins, didn't impress me while he was in Washington. Jeff van Gundy would still be one of my top choices. He impressed me while in NYC and was the scapegoat in Houston.

The Wiz team was being run by that idiot Jordan.

He was much better with the Bulls and Pistons.

Van Gundy = Slow Ball

Perhaps you've forgotten how stagnant his Knicks team's offense was? It wasn't uncommon for them to go five minutes without scoring.

It's a good point about Collins and the Wizards team.

Re: JVG:

I dunno. Those weren't some great Knicks teams he was coaching. I do think that he could help us improve from our half court sets and from a defensive aspect. Right now it's becoming like picking your poison.

I like JVG and I actually liked his Knick teams, but I hate the idea of going from one extreme to another. We need balance.

I wonder if we could bring in a guy like Carlisle to our assistant staff? Or another guy that I like a lot, Terry Porter? This is of course if we decided to keep Smitch.

if that's true (and for the record, I don't think it is - or maybe it was a joke), than keeping Sam around would be criminal. I understand that you don't read the local media because they are idiots who have nothing to say, but if you don't know that Bynum is out - than you should be fired on the spot. Frankly, I would fire him for incompetency, and would probably win the case in court.

D'Antoni is perfect for our style of play, and for our players. I don't like him all that much, but it would be easier for our players. Having somebody like jeff van gundy would probably take more than a season to transform us, not to mention we'd play a boring style that kills all the fun.

Because? They defend the pick and roll and play perimeter D worse than us with better players. Letting Tony friggin Parker go for 41 and 12 when he cant even shoot outside of 16 ft consistantly is a joke. Allowing their top 3 guys to avg 80+ ppg combined is a joke. Dantoni is awful.

what's so good about their players, are you saying that Nash is a better defensive player than Jose/TJ? Amare cares about defense about as much as kobe cares about shaq ... At least Bosh tries. And Shaq is always in foul trouble, so you can't rely on him to implement anyhing. They used to do a better job in the past, when they had marion. They could have been champions last season, it was as close as it can be. This season was a disaster - but I can't blame D'antoni for it, and I'm not his fan. Nash is not the same player, they lost Marion, they lost Thomas, Hill and Diaw are disappointments and Shaq was a failed experiment. None of this is D'antoni's fault though.

How is it not Dantonis fault? He let SA's big 3 beat him literally. 80ppg has to be some sort of record for a series.

THEY RAN THE SAME PLAY ALL GAME DUDE. Pick and roll with either Gino/Parker+ Duncan, and the Suns never helped with the swingman from the other side to at least cut off Parkers penetration. No help, no adjustments. Just pathetic D.

Bosh and Amare have the same problem on the defensive end, which is fear of fouls, so they both play soft on the ball handler and most of the time they get layups vs them. One day theyll learn how to use their feet and also better coaches to hide their deficiencies. Neither should be bad defenders but both are.

Both were not bad defenders as rookies either.

That has to be a joke

If it's not... he should be fired on principle... actually he should already be fired on principle for rewarding TJ for playing like a dick.
