Vecsey: Lakers ready to offer Bynum for Bosh

Quote:
As promised, today’s column is pure basketball, triggered by trade winds.

A Lakers source told me the team had its sights set high, as usual, and planned to target the possible acquisition of Chris Bosh when it got closer to the 3 p.m. Feb. 18 trade deadline, and the Raptors might be more likely to move their Olympian/All-Star while still entitled to compensation.

It commonly is believed Bosh almost certain is to flee Toronto after this season, when he has the right to opt out of the final year ($17.1 million) of his contract.

My source believes the Lakers will offer Andrew Bynum for Bosh (if they haven’t done so already) well before the deadline expires. In itself, the one-for-one swap is impossible to make. Bynum’s “base year” essentially allows L.A. to take back but half of his salary this year ($12.5M). Of course, that restriction is lifted when next year’s salary ($13.7M) activates come July 1, at which time a sign-and-trade transaction would be feasible.

AP
Chris Bosh
The possibility of such a deal makes sense to me. First of all, Bynum is a legit starting center for the defending champions. He also has three years left on his contract after this one.

As for the Raptors, despite the severe offseason roster renovation, they’re not giving any indication of being more than just a one-and-done playoff group this season and in the foreseeable future.

What’s Bosh’s motivation to stay? Clearly, management’s sense of urgency to protect its principal asset cannot be accentuated enough. If that’s impractical, the organization cannot afford to lose Bosh without receiving equitable compensation.

Asked by e-mail about all of the above and whether the Raptors and Lakers have discussed a Bosh-Bynum proposal, team president Bryan Colangelo, who surely is being contacted on a daily basis regarding the availability of his franchise player — especially when the team was 11-17 — he replied in kind:

“For the record, I am not actively seeking a deal or discussing Bosh with any team, much less the Lakers.

Thoughts?

I'm not nearly as convinced that Bosh will "flee" Toronto as the American media seem to be.
That being said, I clearly don't have my finger to the pulse of the situation either.
The Raps could do worse than Bynum if CB is determined to leave.

if bc felt forced to deal, bynum would be a nice piece. but i still don't think he's being forced, and i'm quite sure bynum would be available via s&t in the summer. that would likely be preferable to chris anyways, since he makes $30 mil more that way.

I would say BC is listening to offers and keeping contact with everybody and it gives him an idea of what he might be able to get this summer if he needs to do a S&T. Plus if this were to happen this summer Bosh would sign a Max deal and we'd get more then just Bynum who only makes 12Mil.

Possible:

Bosh (max deal)

for

Bynum/Odom (21Mil)

But nothing will happen until this summer!

Bynum would be nice, but not ideal. I would much rather pick up a SG, move Johnson into the starting lineup and build the team around Bargs. I don't see Bosh leave though, could you imagine Bosh in LA though FTW!

Kobe, Bosh, Gasol, Odom. That could be on the best lineups in like the history of the NBA.

Fuck that cow.

Plus they'll be divorced by then.

Plus, if he doesn't want to be here, parlay him into a SG instead.

Bynum is overpaid and injured too much. Raptors should be able to get a better deal.
Although my bet is Bosh won't be dealt and stays.

Bynum doesnt know how to play next to Gasol. When Gasol doesnt play, he looks like an All-Star, if he does play, he looks average. Wouldnt be an absolutely terrible deal for us if someone was added. I love Odom, but Bynum, Bargs, Odom, Hedo, etc... Too many kind of passive players.

Bynum doesn't make sense LA gets 2 PF Gasol and Bosh
Bosh hate playing Center so does Gasol.
Just a trade of the day for Bosh

I wouldn't mind a Bosh for Bynum+filler. And if somehow we could deal Jose for a SG (Butler?), we'd be golden.

Jack
Butler
Hedo
Bargs
Bynum

Odom would be our 6th man off the bench @SF/PF (25-30mpg).

Jose
DD
Turk
Bargs
Bynum

Bench: Odom,Jack,Beli,Amir,Evans,Weems

But, Butler will be moved within the next month for an expiring and not to us. But that lineup would be a contender.

Bynum and Odom would be good pieces to us, seeing Bynum play without gasol was crazy. He amazing at posting up guys and would be a great compliment to andrea.. andrea could camp on the 3 and bring his game inside once in a while and bynum could do the dirty work down low. Odom would be great as a 6th man with his passing and scoring ability. Bargnani or bynum would have to transform into a franchise player but that might not happen. Lets hope DD lives up to his potential and becomes our new franchise shooting guard..
and we would still have the killer bs!!!

there is no way they trade odom.
he's rather important in LA.
he doesn't complain about being sixth man, and he makes an amazing backup starter when someone like pau goes out with an injury.
