Arrow VC Honored by Ross' Tribute

Quote:
DALLAS – Vince Carter’s curiosity was piqued when he noticed that Terrence Ross’ jersey didn’t match his shorts when the Raptors rookie walked onto the floor for the finals of the slam dunk contest.

Then Carter saw the familiar No. 15 and recognized that Ross was wearing Vinsanity’s old Toronto jersey as a tribute.

“It was weird, but I was honored,” Carter said Monday. “It was great to see that jersey on the floor in that atmosphere of the dunk contest.”

Ross did the jersey proud, catching a pass off the side of the backboard and perfectly executing a windmill dunk while wearing No. 15. Ross dethroned defending dunk champ Jeremy Evans, bringing the title back to Toronto 13 years after Carter won it with a legendary performance.

Ross, who was 9 years old when Carter won the dunk contest, has told reporters that Carter was one of his boyhood idols. Carter reached out to Ross over the weekend to express his appreciation for the tribute.

“I wanted to personally congratulate him and told him I was honored,” Carter said. “I think this is a great opportunity for him because I know what winning the dunk contest did for me. I said the same thing to him. I said, ‘Everywhere you go, when your name is mentioned, it’s mentioned among the dunk champions.’ That’s an honor in itself. That’s something they can’t take away from you.

“That’s how my wonderful ride began. Everybody is excited about the dunk contest and it just gave me confidence.”

Carter won the dunk contest the day before he made the first of his eight consecutive All-Star appearances. Ross, an eighth overall pick averaging 6.4 points per game as a rookie, has a long way to go to approach those heights.

It was a great show by Ross because Vince's status here needs to be restored. Out with the crying, whining, bitching and moaning and in with the praise and honouring of the franchise's greatest player. We needed the positive press that Ross has given us and it was good to see him win it outright. Terrensanity!

Massive underachiever his entire career. Whooooohooooo. Shine that up nice. What's the point? He's had plenty of praise for his dunking. That was never an issue, except when he said he wasn't going to ever dunk again.

That was 13 years ago! Holy crap I feel old. Whatever, hating on VC is so lame now... For me, time is finally healing that wound. Plus, he's so old and worthless that I don't feel the need to dislike him anymore. I know that inside he regrets that he left, and that's good enough for me.

As soon as Vince left the Nets, the booing should have stopped. He's onto his 5th team now. Do we really need to keep reminding ourselves of those dark times?

i'm all for moving on, but i'm not going to forget my team's history. The booing might be juvenile, but it's not like Vince is suddenly some great guy now. Nothing changes the fact that he ulitmately disrespected this team.

It was a great show by Ross true, but Vince's status need not be restored. Although he was near superhuman, put the eyes of the NBA world on Tdot, he still demanded out of the city and that erases all questions of glorifying him.

I was every much the fan of this team then as I am now. The first years that Carter was here in Toronto, amazing. Some people may have been a little younger then, maybe not, but if you take the time to truly think about how exciting those years were than maybe you might enjoy it.

There hasn't been anything close to Vince here since he left. I remember watching every game on the edge of my seat just WAITING to see what he was going to do next.

The last three years weren't great, but hey, that wasn't all on him. To be honest, why people are so angry to this day is beyond me. It's just sports entertainment, he's just a guy. I think the rage speaks more to the love than it does the implied anger.

I'm gonna go watch some VC Toronto highlites now, because I don't ever want to forget that he did things in games, these cats aren't even doing in warm ups.

There's no point in hating him. But there just isn't that much to praise him for. He just never got beyond showing up half the time and needing to be pushed and prodded constantly.

The truth! Go on with your bad self.... dude was in the highlights every single game. I think some just don't realize how freaking amazing he was. The way he left was convoluted by many variables that made him look worse than he was. Time's up, get over it. It's over!

well LX is right, his last 3 years were brutal...I used to scream at the screen every time he winced as if being shot...his whining made players on both teams roll their eyes.

But those first years....damn man.

ya I remember the game against SA when he pointed at a pick that wasn't coming then took off Baseline for a nasty two hander to win the game....high percentage clutch shot haha. The of course, the windmill two hand reverse through the dunking dutchman and someone else when they were playing Indiana...yikes.
