Raptors Vasquez: I want to stay here

The Official Site of Canada's Team | THE OFFICIAL BLOG OF THE TORONTO RAPTORS

Quote:
Vasquez: “I really want to stay here”“The biggest thing with us is that we communicate great,” Vasquez said. “He knows what he’s going to get from me and I know my role. He knows I sacrifice for the team because sometimes I do want to do more, but Kyle Lowry is outstanding. As a man, I’m a team player. It would be selfish on my part to think I should be doing more when he’s doing what he’s doing. He’s great. I’m just happy to be on this team and hopefully this summer something great happens. I really want to stay here.”

Part of Vasquez’s love for Toronto stems from the support he has seen from the fan base. Saturday’s game was a big moment — Vasquez had previously played in 13 postseason games, but none like this. The passion from the crowd hit him squarely in the chest“This is what I’ve dreamed about ever since I was back home in Venezuela,” Vasquez said. “I was at the layup line, during the national anthem and I was really, I was almost crying because it was really emotional.

I am emotional as a person, so it was an unbelievable atmosphere.”From Venezuela to Maryland, Memphis to New Orleans and, finally, Sacramento to Toronto, Vasquez has been waiting to find the situation that feels right. The love he has received from Raptors fans isn’t taken lightly.“That right there… really just reminded me of my roots, where I came from, everything I went through to get to that point,” Vasquez said. “God is amazing, how he works and did things for me. T. [Terrence] Ross thought I was crying for a second. It was a cool moment.

It was really nice.“As a kid I would always dream about what happened last game. Even though we lost, the fans, the whole city, that feeling of being so involved and connecting, to me that’s the greatest feeling ever

Then sign him up. Nice to have someone that wants to be here. He's played better. But tell him he has to fucking play D when we sign him!

I can't get enough of Vasquez's interviews. What a great guy we ended up getting.

Provided he makes a deal for the right price, then I have no problem. Vasquez has been great since arriving.

A mid-level or slightly below (4-5M per year) deal for him to be our backup PG/SG would be a good deal. Would love to have him. I could see some higher bids though, so we'll have to see how it plays out.

Let's just get PP and Vasquez to sign 1m dollar deals, yknow, for the championship run?

IF he really wants to be here, he will make sure that the deal he signs is fair for him first, but also fair for the club second

Is that happening before or after Lebron ops out of Miami and signs a 15 million/year deal with Toronto?

He wants to stay but I just can't see him satisfied with a backup PG kind of money.
His first deal was a bargain, and I am sure his agent will push for big $$$.

Bayless wanted to stay his whole career. I hope his fate is different than Bay. Maybe a 3 year deal recognizing he can revisit going somewhere else and starting.

I remember that very well and I knew he was struggling for various reasons, but try telling it to his agent.

Say we sign him for that much, and keep lowry for roughly 10-11mil/year. What's our cap situation like in '16? Do we still have max/big cap room?

We have limited cap room in 16 no matter what. It's 15 when we have big cap room. With the cap jumps recently, we might still be looking at close to max money available with both kept.

I really hope we bring him back. Love to hear stuff like that. And love players with that kind of passion.
