Default Is Vasquez getting faster?

All right donít freak out, I know GV is not getting faster and he will never be. Haven said that, I have noticed that he seems to be showing more athleticism (or maybe I should say less lack of athleticism) after the all-star game. In particular I have noticed 3 things:

1 He seems to be able to loss his mark and penetrates more often than before. You can see that in many of his floaters (regardless of whether he makes the shot or not) he actually leaves his mark behind, and shoots the ball with no mark from the free throw line area. This was not the case at the beginning of his time here in Toronto. Back then he would almost always be contested in those floaters.

2 He is getting more rebounds and some of them where he actually jumps. I am not saying he is jumping a lot, but I have seen him get a few rebounds lately that he certainly would not have got 2 months ago.

3 Even though he is still a huge liability defensively, he seems to be staying on his mark a bit more, and in fact has stolen more often than before.

All this could be a product of my imagination, and it can also be confounded by the fact that he has had a few high scoring games lately and maybe that has biased my impression a bit.

Has he looked any faster to you guys?

That means steroids, but my guess is lank is joking.

I'd like to see GV's stock rise so much that Lowry doesn't hold us hostage at the negotiating table.

He's finally playing like he did in NO and it's awesome to see. Demar and even Lowry deferred to him a couple times in the 4th cause they trusted he'd make the right play.

He's coming off a serious ankle injury that required surgery.

And is he really a huge liability defensively? He might have been when he was still feeling out that ankle. Luol Deng sucked defensively coming back from a bad injury. I don't see the huge liability currently, but will be happy to concede as much if there is clear evidence of that.

He seems faster probably because he is now fully health. Like LX said he did just come of ankle surgery.

Ain't going to happen.

GV and KL are miles apart and a GV/DD backcourt would be pretty hilarious. Not to mention that GV is playing a lot of SG instead of PG these days.

yes, he is, because his 1 to 1 D is atrocious. He's worse than calderon, although a little bit better when faced against 2s. If we end up playing the wizards, his matchup against miller may even be on of the keys for that series, because in the last game he was abused.

in the regular season, he's not a huge issue because of his size, but in the playoffs, if he can't contain miller for example, they will attack him over and over without worry about miler's minute limits and what not. Once you find a weak spot in the playoffs, you over exploit it to death.

Yeah, is that evidence? I've seen him look atrocious, but not for quite some time. I've seen him use his length quite well and keep himself in games by playing hard on the defensive end. I missed the Wizard game so i can't really comment on that. I'm thinking he doesn't get abused if the effort is there, but we'll see.

I don't remember the details of his defense inn that game, but according to the Raptors game history:
"Greivis Vasquez had his best game as a Raptor, coming off of the bench for 23 points and eight assists, including some key baskets down the stretch in regulation and overtime."
Moreover he played 38 min and his +- was neutral (0),

In the previous game vs the wizards he actually had 14 points and 7 assists in 25 minutes with a +- of +9

The question is, how much his defense was crucial for that loss in the second game? and also is he any faster now in comparison?

Good Thread,
I actually notice this too as well, he is moving really good. I like him, best pg combo we have had, him and Lowry are tough

I partially agree with moremilk, defensively he is still very bad. However I don't know if Miller would abuse him, because Vasquez seems to be struggling the most against quick pg's.

I agree, most of his late success has been while playing second guard alongside KL, and therefore, marking the slower player
