Tonight against Indiana was a clear example of the difference between having Lowry and having GV on the floor.
The Raptors played at a playoff level intensity when lowry was in the line up and played both sides of the floor.

Also, comparing Vasquez to Jose would be an insult. Calderon put the team on his back on many games.. the team played on a higher level when he was on the floor.
I've yet to see vasquez have any significant impact on the floor,
even salmons is atlease an asset out there when the game is on the line.

Of course. When used as a backup is arguably the best backup PG in the league.

I agree. At the same time though, we definitely need to cut Vasquez some slack as he is still getting use to the system and playing with a new bunch of players. In the end I think he will be fine and I'm hoping he turns out better than Calderon.

Maybe Nate-Rob?

But, yeah, I agree with you. Vasquez is nothing but a back-up, though, just so that we're all clear. He cannot start.

Mehh, as a starter last season he was 3rd in the NBA in assists. There were some here a month ago saying Lowry was nothing more then a backup. lol
Vasquez is a pretty good PG, and i think the more he plays the better he is. Not saying he's a great player but he has proven to be very capable.

He was really pretty bad defensively tonight. What works for him is that the damaged is minimized with him using up a lot of clock. And he uses the clock pretty aggressively, not just dribbling it out. He makes defenses work and then executes pretty nicely.

Yeah, I counted 4 times that he either got lost, or just got blown by tonight against CJ Watson in the limited time they played tonight. He's slow, but his energy level isn't where it should be defensively either. He was the only one that didn't look like he was giving his all on defence tonight.

True, I think he fits in great as our back up pg. He just needs a little more time to adjust and to get used to his new teammates.

Not making excuses for GV (he can definitely play better than he has) but that's a tough comparison to make given that Jose got a lion's share of games to start and was here for YEARS. GV just got here and hasn't cracked 20 min in a contest yet.

Sample size needs to be bigger. He sure as hell looked like he could give Jose a run for his money when he was playing in N.O.

Last year when we played New Orleans, Vasquez had the benefit of big minutes as the starter, and he carved Jose a new asshole, and demolished us in that game almost single-handedly. I was furious that we couldn't stop him.

No way that Masai brought in GV to be our long-term starter ... he is a good back-up and fine as your primary PG if you intend to tank.

I'm not criticizing GV ... he just isn't a stud PG on a championship / elite team ... excellent back-up and can play extended minutes when needed ... nothing wrong with this.

What are you talking about? "We got nothing from the trade"?: 10 wins and 3 loses paying 10 mill less? that is a great return right there. In relation to Vasquez contribution, as I stated in the starting post, he has been playing very badly. Even playing this badly, he has been keeping us close with the second unit in 6 of his 10 games, and he was instrumental in the last win against the bulls. So even if he does not improve at all, and just plays the way he has, the second unit is much better than what it was without Vasquez

Vasquez has been TERRIBLE. I lost it the other game when he carried the ball in the backcourt while guarded by nobody.
