Vasquez hasn't been playing that bad imo
it helps to lower expectations of him that his starter is playing out of his mind right now

It's remarkable how fast our new players have fitted in, we have a respectable bench now and we're winning games. Vasquez is still a significant upgrade over Stone and Buycks even if he's not at his best. And you have to love those contracts!

There's no way you could ever hate on the Gay trade, never.

Vasquez makes his teammates better, he is a facilitator. That's what you want from your back-up point guard. I hope we re-sign in the offseason, and he becomes our back-up point guard for many years.

He needs to shoot less, and play to his strength which is getting off that sweet pass.
We know he can do it, we've witnessed him do it.

Vasquez is a pretty average player. The problem is that he doesn't know it. And now he's trying to jam 25 minutes he used to get in the 15-18 he's getting and making some bad choices IMO.

He is not used to get 15 min, he is actually used to get 35 min which is what he was getting at NO. I agree with you that he is an average player, but it is hard to swallow that after the type of carrier he has had.

In college he was treated as a superstar, (I am not saying he was one, I am saying he was treated like one). He is the only player in college history to have 2000 points and 700 assists. He was name best PG of all college in his senior year, and his college already retired his shirt. He lead the team in points assists and rebounds two years in a row. Of course all this was a consequence of a team that played for him, in a very mediocre generation of players, but still he got the superstar treatment.

Then he got to the NBA, and reality started to sink in, as he was just a back up PG in Memphis, that would have change his perception of himself, if it was not for the fact hat he hit an impossible shot in play offs to win a game with Memphis, and all of a sudden he was up again.

Then he got traded to NO, and had an unbelievable season. We all know that his numbers were inflated by the system he was in, but when you lead the NBA in assists, and are runner up for MIP of the year, playing 35 mpg, you certainly start to think you are the real deal (again I am not saying he is, I am just trying to guess what is in his mind)

So even though you are right, he thinks he is much better than what he really is, it will take him a long time to settle for less than what he was told he could be.

I agree wholeheartedly with the first part.

Let's worry about who the starting PG will be first before deciding to commit long-term to a backup.

While I understand what you're saying this IS only GV's 4th year in the league... on his 3rd team. Remember Billups back in the day? Took him a while to find his game and the proper fit for him before he really took off. Now I'm not sure that GV will ever have a Finals MVP to his name but I think that there's as much room to improve as there is to get worse.

Time will tell.

GV is already 26. Billups was also a 3rd overall pick.

True, he was the 3rd overall pick... but he also played for 5 different teams in his first 6 years. Until he found his game his draft position didn't help him much. Seemed more like a bust TBH until he got to DET.

GV is 26 but his game isn't reliant on explosiveness. If he learns to play like Andre Miller he could be around for a while.

Near #1 vs. Late first rounder

That's because he has no explosiveness, and the d, well you know.

And Vasquez was clearly the better player during their college careers.... my point is that Vasquez hasn't found his niche yet. Seems like he was close in NOH and he thrived. As I said... we'll see.

Yeah, 3rd overall or 28th overall. GV also was a senior.

DC did the exact same thing as GV did in NOH while CP3 is out. GV also was outted by IT in SAK. I hope he's not seen as a starter for this team cuz him and DD together would be hilariously bad defensively.

#3 in assists in the entire league last year. He's definitely playing shitty for us, but I wouldn't write him off yet. His assists are wayyy down per minute; as he gets comfortable they sould improve.

He's playing stupid right now though - picking up his dribble way too early, not driving much, and when he does settling for floaters too much. I also don't like how he keeps his arms down on D. He needs to learn the fundamentals and put that 6'6 frame and larger wingspan to use. He should be able to blanket guys like Augustin with ease.

He's kind of like a cross between Jose and Juan Carlos Navarro.

He looks less and less like Jose to me.
Prefers pretty pass not safe one. Has no conciense with his shot, Arenas style threes. Is not that good of a dribbler, but uses his size well on both sides.
Defensively he is not a matador pylon, just a bigger slower guy.
Mp knock on Jose, I loved him here. But Greivis is nothing like him.

jose had far better PG skills and was in a different league as a shooter. It's just that Jose's is just too slow defensively and with the speedy guys at that position, it's tough to build a defense with him as a starter. If Jose goes to europe, he'd be the best player by a large margin.

vasquez is nothing like jose.

I think he could be a nice 6th man, since he's got the size to play a little big of shooting guard, and once he gets more comfortable with the team and the system, he could be a very solid backup pg. Could develop into a very solid fit for the team, playing around 20-25 mpg off the bench. I also think him and Patterson are a good fit in the second unit, as Vasquez seems to do well in pick and roll, and especially pick and pop situations.
