If Val can manage his foul counts each game, I expect him to have:
7-8 PPG, 10 RPG, 1.5 BPG.

If foul trouble is a matter for this kid, then probably around 6PPG-7RPG-1BPG.

I expect JV will average 10+/10/2. (Not like he'll be fighting the PF for rebounds :cookie

10REB?

7-8 seems a little more realistic, but i hope you're right.

Me too and I almost put 7-8 but I think 10 is doable only because of the construct of the team..I believe with AB playing mid to perimeter it will allow JV more rebound opportunities - at both ends of the court - he'll be more aggressive than AB on the defensive side going for rebounds.

That will probably be the case most of the time, he'll foul out before 20 minutes played.

I'll bet he'll start around 15 but will eventually push 25-27mpg by the All-star break.

he's a work in progress, and i dont see Casey as the forgiving "lets give him tonnes of time to learn" after he makes mistakes type of coach.
he'll get limited minutes, due to rawness and foul trouble... so i'd be happy with 7.5ppg 6.5 rebs.
he's young... he'll have plenty of time to develop.

he'll get treated the same way mitchell treated bargs. some of us will be able to handle it with the future in mind, others will act like three years olds. i just hope BC doesn't intervene.

i like the 6/5 expectations. they're realistic. coming in and averaging nearly a double-double is a lot, especially when there's only some many players able to achieve that in the nba now-a-days.

I disagree. I think he'll let JV play and he'll either foul out or learn to play with fouls. I think 7.5/6.5 is under utilizing him. This whole riding the pine is BS imo and should really be used as punitive measures for bad behavior or if you suck. Since JV is none of these I'm hoping he will get the chance to play through foul trouble. This team can't wait for JV to take several years to come around. If I were honest I would expect INSIDER's numbers for JV the other way...6.5/7.5, I expect JV will rebound much more than he will score - at least at first. I expect the numbers to be closer to a double double by the end of the year.

If Ed gets 24.5 mpg and goes 7.7/7.1/1 then the second year 23.2mpg for 6.3/6.6/1 then I strongly believe JV will get the same or more.

it's not riding the pine, it's developing him. he'll need time throughout the game to be coached from the bench on the mistake he's made. playing him thru is where the mistakes don't get rectified.

If last season is any testament to what we're going to get from Casey, he's not going to endanger our team from winning at the cost of just giving a player PT. I wouldn't be surprise if we saw gray and Bargs received PT during the important parts of the game and JV receive the less meaningful minutes.

Ha....I was referring to how Smitch treated Bargs as you mentioned...IF DC treats JV the same way you could very well see the same reaction. Smitch was not a coach to develop new players. I expect better things from DC...coaching a player on the bench is one thing, what Smitch did to Bargs was ridiculous. As for last year, DC pulled players that weren't playing defense, I highly doubt that's the case here. JV will get burn cause he puts defense first - I believe he'll get closer to 22-24mpg in a very short time.

what happened to Bargs was because of BC meddling with mitchell's decisions and line-ups. how he was handled during the first season was fine, it wasn't until the second season where decisions became questionable.

BC didn't meddle till later cause Smitch was in the wrong. BC didn't mess with Bargs' development...that fell squarely onto Smitch. Do I agree with BC, nope, but past is past.

you really think mitchell wanted to start Bargs small forward? LOL

how was mitchell in the wrong? Bargs hit a wall in his sophomore season, and on top of that, he had nagging injuries. he was playing like shit, so mitchell wasn't playing him over the players who could help the team win. we were a competitive team at that point.

regardless, that was his second season and we're talking about Bargs/JV's first season. how he was handled was perfectly fine. he played a big role and received a lot of attention from the coaching staff.
