+1 People need to stop hating, w/e we didn't get a pg... We had to pick our poison, we were struggling at the 1, (somewhat)3 and 5... LOL he's a centre who blocks and rebounds and is 19... it'll take time for him to get bigger but he has time.. average some blocks? (not sure how much? 1.15?) and 6 rebounds in 14 mins isn't too bad (Playing against adults, in euroleage) ... only 7 points but in 70% fg , 88% ft :/ people need to chill lmao I got mad too but yea, looked into him a bit... imo a good pick

calderon is untradeable this season, but next summer he might be more attractive as an expiring.

The next summer will make or break this franchise's next 5-10 years. Hopefully casey can extract more defense from our offensive minded guys to the point where they become attractive trade assets. If we get lucky and get a #1 pick to draft a superstar level player, we could have a really, really good young core.

Bayless + Derozan + Barnes + Davis + Jonas ...

Wow, second lithuanian in this horrible team of random players. It will be hard supporting raps.
Anyway..

Jonas is a team player.
He has really long arms.
He will always go to the basket, a true low post player.
He will never be lazy on any part in his game. He will always try his best.

He is not ready to go play in the NBA on high level, needs a lot of practice here.
He needs more MEAT.
He needs a good personal trainer to help him grow individually.

He won't show anything spectacular next year or two, but will be in top 10 centers of the NBA in the future.
He's 19 y.o.

If he is a defensive/rebounding centre as advertised - great pick.

Personally, no matter how much I've read on Knight, I couldn't being myself to root for him being on the Raps. How many Bayless' does one team need, really?

Give the dude a year to grow, both physically and basketball-wise. We'll get another good pick, whether or not there is a season.

The rotation at 4-5 of Jonas, Bargs, Davis and Amir is not bad, not bad at all.

I am sorry, because of that rant earlier on the other thread. But Raptors fans are proven haters. I know Jonas, hes a nice guy, he is famous, but hes not egoist. He followed his dream, get drafted and what did he get? Tons of hateful messages on youtube and here. He do not deserved it and i was very mad.

Some Raptors fans are such a tools. They want rebounding, hustle and defense, they just get one of the most talented 19 year old players, who rebounds and hustles. Guy who is compared to Joakhim Noah and Tyson Chandler. Player who play hard every time, demands contact, and wants to be like Dwight Howard one day. Sounds crazy, but He looks just like young Dwight with his incredible wings.
Jonas is not undersized, he is 7 foot in shoes, with 7'5 wingspan and 9'35 vertical reach.

Because of his buyout, he probably will stay in Europe Nest season. But it's not final. I heard he may can be free at January, but it's just a rumor from me now.
he is nothing like Bosh. He just can't express himself and was misunderstood. He may compared himself to Bosh, cause he has quick feet and he is raw.

Strengths Great hustle player, FT shooter, rebounder and just amazing pick and roll finisher, very coordinated, quick, good decision maker. Good positioning and moving without the ball, great footwork and soft touch around the rim. great teammate.
Weaknesses Lacks strength, explosiveness, defensive awareness. Not very skilled and predictable on offense.

He just turned 19, so strength will come, he is still growing by the way. By having such a great footwork and amazing wingspan, he can be great defensive big one day. Right now he definitely lacking experience and do a lot of mistakes on D.

My comparison : J. Noah with better offensive game.
Worst case scenario, less talented Varejao. Jonas is a hustle player, so no matter what, he will be more or less efficient NBA player. Such a players always translate their game.

San Antonio Spurs was trying to trade Tony parker for this guy, I dont know about all of you Spurs know what talent is!

If the above statement is true i truly belive this a good move on the raptors, what i heard of this kid is that he has high motor what is opposite to Bargs. I want to see what this kid could do when he add`s some weight. You never know this kid could end up being our Noah, if this is the case my cats off to BC having some balls to pick this guy as we most likely have to weight.

ask him to get rid of Bargs or destroy him in practice

Martynas,

I enjoy your excitement for this guy, it's infectious.

However, you have to understand why Raptor fans might be skeptical of drafting a young European center.

Actually, on that note - you have to admit that it took balls of brass on BC's part to draft like this.

yes. yes they are.

Still don't worry. your boy will be fine. He's coming to a nice city and once the fans see that he brings effort and determination, they will appreciate him and show him love.

Toronto has a history of freaking out on draft day.

Martynas, I'm one of the haters, so I hope you're right.

Yeah, basically we just get scared when we draft more euro big guys because of our past.

the cavs were supposedly really high on this kid. they probably backed out because of the question marks regarding his eligibility and contract (buyout), and that is one team that does not have the luxury of waiting a year (or 2) for a player to come across the pond. they need to make an impact right away.
when they passed on him and grabbed Tristan, BC probably couldnt believe it and jumped to grab him.
i have a feeling JV was number one on BC's list, with Knight being second... and when JV became available, BC was all over him.

i must admit i was upset initially, but i like what im hearing and seeing.... if we are going the Defensive route, this kid may be exactly what we need.
its just a little tough for some raps fans to swallow, seeing how our first euro pick is panning out. hopefully this time will be different.
i think it will be.
