Bottomline, regardless of who we picked, we will still need a Center. He's still 10 and obviously not playing at least a couple of years. None of the players that were available will answer that need at the moment. I would think Brian will trade for a center before the season starts, if and when it starts.

This quote from a poster @ RealGM sums it up....

Quote:
Mainly being another Raw, troublesome defensive, European thin Big who's supposedly a Center. What's the definition of insanity again? How in the world did Colangelo manage to mess this up with Knight and Biyomboo on the board? The icing is that he isn't even able to come over next year. Wow.

Dear Mr.Casey, apparently your not going to get much help via the draft anytime soon. Well at least this pretty much solidifies another top 5 pick next year.

Colangelo never has and never will Get it and once he's fired in 2 years when his contract extension is up it will just once again be another move that should've been done much earlier which should've been this year.

Sad to see many of the Raptors Eastern counterparts improve in one night while the Raps organization continues to spin its wheels thanks to the headship of Colangelo.

Does this further signal the end of the Bargnani era? and does it also mean the continuing of the jose regime?

I don't like how nbadraft.net compares him to a primo brezec, that is not a good sign

I love his genuine enthusiasm for coming to Toronto and playing (one day) in the NBA.

the only reason bryan bc drafted him was because of bargnanis earlier comments
he wanted to make him happy so he would stay which i think is bs!
we should have taken walker or knight, we need to get rid of joe.
there goes ed davis' future

Guess what though? BC knows what's up!

We didn't draft any more guards!

Nice pick BC!

Most analysts have him being like Zydrunas, Casey said he reminded him of Chandler. Jonas said he looked up to Zabonis. Thats the high note, i would say brezec is worst case

Default Defending Jonas Valančiūnas

here are his stats in the euro leagues
Euroleague - 7.7 ppg and 5.8 rebounds
VTB United League - 7.3 ppg and 5.1 rebounds
Baltic League - 12 ppg and 5.3 rebounds
Lithuania - 11.5 ppg and 7.3 rebounds

HOWEVER these stats were accumulated in
Euroleague - 14.9 mpg
VTB United League - 17.3 mpg
Baltic League - 20.8 mpg
Lithuania - 20.6 mpg

If you were to put these stats in 35 minutes per game, they would be
Euroleague - 18.1 ppg and 13.6 rebounds
VTB United League - 14.8 ppg and 10.3 rebounds
Baltic League - 20.2 ppg and 8.9 rebounds
Lithuania - 19.5 ppg and 12.4 rebounds

by the way he is just 19 as well

These stats are impressive
Right before the draft I was a huge fan of Brandon Knight and to me it was him or bust. After we drafted Jonas I was pissed off and checked what other people from different organizations were saying. They said this is an excellent pick for us and then I checked his stats which were impressive. He could easily become a top 3 center in the NBA if he added muscle to his frame. Hopefully that is what he does this year.

I was in the same boat as you. I wanted either Knight or Walker but before the draft I didn't mind Jonas. After maybe 7 mins I realized that it could have been worse and that at least we have Center.

there goes ed davis' future

BC has said that Davis is a part of the core going forward. How do you ruin Davis' future if you draft a C. They play different positions, if anything, Bargnani is gone

Raps needed a center and Jonas Valenciunas is going to turn into a Marc Gasol. The future looks good.

I had the impression that Knight and Walker weren't much better than Bayless.

Thanks for posting some random guy's observation. I don't have to watch games now. I;ll just read posts from Real GM and become an expert.

As for Jonas, all i will say is i haven't seen ANY of these draftees play and from what i have heard he has great potential.
given that this draft class was pretty weak, i;ll take a guy with a big upside. So what if we have to wait a year or two extra?

You guys are never happy, we just got a great defender who will be grabing boards. He is verry talented player Jonas never gives up on the play and he works hard for the team not his own stats. So little advice stop hating and give him a chance

they never show any defensive highlights. I'm going to have to search for some to see D.

I just hope more Jonas means less Bargnani

well i guess drafting a C and having ed davis and amir here mean that Bargs is gone
if we drafted a PG then jose would have been gone

i guess in the end if only 1 of them leaves i'd rather it be bargs
