I'm scratching my head at the criticism, this is the description from espn's draft summary:

Quote:
He's a true low-post player with a good motor, and he's tough -- basically the opposite of Andrea Bargnani
I've seen several people over the past weeks comparing him with biedrins (when he was good). The only downside is his buyout, but:

1. this year might be lost to a lockout
2. worst case scenario this makes us more likely to get a higher pick next year, in a much better draft

I LOVE our pick, I didn't think colangelo will have the guts to do it because he's basically showing a willingness to throw away one of the only two years he has in his new contract.

gutsy move and many people will eat their words in 2 years.

Well, I know him better than anyone else... Really disappointed CAVS passed on him, just like majority of other CAVS fans I know. More disappointed hes a Raptor. I just saw him 3 days ago, and I hoped he will be anything, but not a raptor... Worst case scenario.
Why, now he can do no mistakes. Well, whats the difference, Raps fans hates him already and I bet a lot don't even know who he is...

If BC knows what he's doing, im sure he's trading this guy, because no way would he use this pick to get a big man after locking up amir and drafting davis last year. PLEASEEEE

I don't mind the player, I just don't like the situation. With the buyout, I don't want this to turn into another Ricky Rubio situation. We don't have another 2-3 years to wait. If out team is still terrible, young players are going to pack up their bags and sign to another team.

When Raptors fans see Valanciunas hustling, rebounding and going hard to the rim he'll win everyone over.

Raptors fans love this kind of player.

It's a great fit.

he already has a buyout, the only drawback is he must stay one more season there. He'll be here next season.

Hey guys - have a snickers.

This means two straight years we got guys that should have gone earlier. We got lucky with his buyout situation, and maybe Maurizio can help with that if need be.

Casey just said he was better than Chandler. I'll take that.

If thats the case, the offseason trading is that more interesting. Seems like the Raps made this pick with future free agent trades in mind. If Jonas stays for one more year, are we getting a free agent C for 1-2 year contract? Does Bargs go? If Jonas stays for one season it will be fine. More time to get better and bruise with the big boys in the EuroLeague

This quote from a poster @ RealGM sums it up....

Quote:
Mainly being another Raw, troublesome defensive, European thin Big who's supposedly a Center. What's the definition of insanity again? How in the world did Colangelo manage to mess this up with Knight and Biyomboo on the board? The icing is that he isn't even able to come over next year. Wow.

Dear Mr.Casey, apparently your not going to get much help via the draft anytime soon. Well at least this pretty much solidifies another top 5 pick next year.

Colangelo never has and never will Get it and once he's fired in 2 years when his contract extension is up it will just once again be another move that should've been done much earlier which should've been this year.

Sad to see many of the Raptors Eastern counterparts improve in one night while the Raps organization continues to spin its wheels thanks to the headship of Colangelo.

Casey has to say that.. BC just hired him a few days ago. you not gonna put anything negative out there even if I was selected 5th overall!

Casey would say.. well i heard he has great potential as a towel boy, we need one of those badly!

Thank god on this Raptor forums we have so many good scouts that knows what Toronto needs. I'd say this. JV is way more unfortunate to be in Toronto, than Toronto having him.
