I've seen a few articles from yesterday that claimed that Cleveland was committed to picking jv, even if Kanter was available. We were really lucky here.

And this has been an ongoing debate for ages now. We have Ed Davis (who looks quite promising) so it's not as if we have NO bigs.... and we watched Bosh, an all-star big, struggle here for years with no real guard help.

I'm a fan of putting the ball handlers in place first and THEN moving on to the question of bigs.

Let's be real too.... DAL was the anomaly here.. LA was lead by a guard (Kobe) and BOS by wing players as well (Allen, Pierce, Rondo).

No. Because even though he may have played big minutes SOME games he wasn't relied upon EVERY game to carry the team the way that some of these european rely on their stars.

If we wanted to go big I think that I may have gone with Biyombo, who seems to have an "NBA-ready" body and a knack for shotblocking.

We'll see what JV has to offer though.

Just think how excited the few fans that are still around that won't have ended up gouging their eyes out in horror after watching the Raps "compete" in '11-'12 will be prior to the start of the '12-'13. We'll be adding 2 really high draft picks in one offseason leading to sudden massive improvement. Just have to wait for it. It's a case of delayed gratification.

I'm not too happy. Valanciunas is a clear project.

I think what it comes down to is Kemba, Knight, Jimmer are basically undersized SGs who can score if you give them the ball, which is kind of whatever assets in the long term. So if Valanciunas becomes Gortat sized and his touch within 3 feet of the basket means a future post game, he becomes more valuable than all those guys. And maybe he's just a Varejao who rebounds in which case he might still be more valuable

I'd have gone Biyombo though

Damn - I fixed up the accents and either missed the misspelling or caused it myself. Will fix it now.

I wasn't shocked they picked Thompson, it was rumoured leading into the draft that they might.

He's less of a project because he is physically ready and mentally ready on D. He's a project on O but we don't really need that much help on O.

We'll see about that. From everything I've read and watched Bismack hands down looks like the better player.

My bad. My thoughts were that he'll be there for only 1 year.

Its weird though in the press conference BC said the whole time they were trying to pick Jonas. And then on fan590 today he said if Jonas was gone, he would have likely picked Biyombo. So what happend to knight and kemba? I guess it was all just what the analysts thought the Raptors needed.

Raptors have agreed to a buyout with Valanciunas's team.

Don't have a formal article, but there's a Twitter update from the FAN 590.

Quote:
Reports say that the Raptors have reached a buyout agreement with first-round pick Jonas Valanciunas
UPDATE: According to Eric Koreen of the National Post-

Quote:
A source with knowledge of the negotiations confirms #Raptors reach buyout agreement with Lietuvos for Valanciunas. He joins TO in 12-13.
So he will come over after 1 year.

good news because I didn't really want to wait 2 or more years to see this guy play. but its good because there will be a lockout. he's playing a lot of competition basketball over the summer and hopefully a successful season overseas.

Kind of good news, kind of not.

I wish he was here right after the lockout ends, but it's better than having to wait 3 years for him.

Hopefully the Raptors can find a way to guide his development while he's with Lietuvos Rytas.
