Really disapponted in a lot of the comments in this thread. Some really ignorant stuff being said.

Perhaps you guys needs some perspective and then will realise the entire fate of the franchise wasn't going to be set on the right path by a 5th pick in one of the shittiest drafts in the history of the NBA.

That being said, this guy could turn out to be the steal of the draft. Length, athleticism, a high motor - I'm excited.

And jeff, really? Really? Making fun of a guy for not speaking English that well when your grip on it would also appear to be quite tenuous (at least in it's written form) is somewhat "assinine".

top post.

i said all along i preferred going for an "intangible" pick in this draft where outside the top 2 was very hard to judge.

I havent bothered to read all 14 pages of what must be a hate fest for this pick. I think its silly.

The guy is a good player. The PG's available arent as good as the guy we already have, and Thompson was off the board (which I called thank you very much) what were they gonna do?

How do you know one of the PG's aren't better then what we currently have? Because David Amber said so? Didn't we just say we shouldn't listen to analysts? Especially ones employed by the Raptors, and especially after we just passed on said PG's.

I hated the pick at first!, but after watching some highlights, he is nothing like Bargs! He is skinny but not afraid of contact. He plays in the paint and protects the rim! He is from a basketball crazy country. It's not like he was dreaming of playing foot, like Bargs!
I think this dude is dedicated to basketball and many thinks he will be the best player of this draft down the road!! He sets the screen hard an roll hard, keep the ball up, good hands,etc...

Only negative I have on him is his ENGLISH!! When you don't understand the question, you say "I don't know!" He keeps saying it the whole interview!

The only problem I have with Valanciunas is his foul rate.

We were going to be absolutely and humiliatingly atrocious this season no matter who we drafted and whether that guy was going to contribute this year or not anyway so who cares. It's all about getting another good pick next year and continuing the rebuilding process. With no significant additions to the NBA's least-talented roster via either the draft or free-agency, we just have to accept we're going to have to put up with another blindingly appalling self-inflicted-eye-gouging-inducing nightmarish alcoholism and depression-causing abomination of a season. It's about short-term pain for long-term gain.

You've been listening to too much BC and Raptors TV, JV will be a BUST just like barg. What really bothers me is everyone justifying this pick , how great it was, yada yada yada, especially Leo Rautins, for him every euro is solid gold. Hey, just because you couldn't make it in the NBA and you may have had limit success in the euroleague, don't try to bolster your ego by claiming all euros are more talented than NCAA players. The fact remains this was a weak draft, tell the fanbase you couldn't make a trade for the fifth pick, you like j. bayless over kemba and knight (big mistake, you'll all see), and that in secret discussions with david stern you know that there will be a lockout that will mercifully shorten the nba season/agony for raptor fans and allow JV to develop in europe for another year after which we may be able to trade him or barg to san antonio since they're the gods of nba talent recognition (not that they haven't been good), but fyi just because they like him (JV) doesn't mean he's good. I'm putting this thread in my favourites. Last year, a few people really shit on the Davis pick. In hindsight, it's quite funny. When I see certain people complain, I actually get more confident in this year's pick, as odd as that may seem.

Actually, I haven't watched Raps TV or read or heard one thing by BC since the pick was made. Perhaps I'm just mature enough to put things into perspective and let common sense prevail.

I'd also certainly never call a guy a bust that I know very little about and have never really watched play, especially before he's even played one game at the NBA level. I'd also never call a 20ppg+ scorer in the NBA a bust.

I personally liked the derozen, davis picks and hated the Bargs pick, and for the record this pick is better than barg at #1 (that's not saying much), but a bust is a bust, although he seems like a good kid

A bust is a #1 OVERALL draft pick that doesn't play both ends of the floor, is probably not the best player on his team and can't elevate his team to the next level never mind the playoffs, who cares if he averages 20ppg, vinny johnson could do that, hell most NBA players could do that if they got the same shot attempts barg did. just the fact you can't recognize that speaks to your "maturity". Basketball is ALOT more than scoring, and true TALENT is not one dimensionable.
