I think Valanciunas wont be a star, but im sure, he will be good, competetive center in NBA level.
Its probably the best pick for Raptors in this draft. Why? Because this draft is weak and you get a player which probably wont play in upcoming season. So the Raptors might get a really good pick in a next year draft (no offence), which will be really strong. And dont forget that lockout lets Valanciunas to stay in Europe while americans just have to wait.
You made a right choice!
Peace

You guys are just joking right? He's like the complete opposite of Z. If he has the same type of hands, touch, and shooting skills as Z this kid would be off the charts.

Well hello there forum. How are you holding on guys? First Linuz now this guy... Sales of Prozac or whatever they use these days must be rising in the are of Toronto. I surely didn't see him coming here, or there, rather.

Guys you have to give yourselves a break. It's a lottery with these young kids, who knows how things will work out. I just hope he doesn't buy a motorbike or use the naughty word during practice. Those where the picks that didn't work out.

In my opinion, if there is no lockout he has to go to NBA at once. He might be pushed or dunked on, but he will see some proper competition, rather than playing against wimps himself.

Anyway, what I really wanted to tell you - I don't know if you can catch european TV in Canada, but Global Games (a series of friendly U19 matches in Lithuania) start today. By the way U19 Canada is also participating. We might see Jonas playing if he comes back to play. Maybe Lithuanians here know whether he is going to play?
Hopefully some highlights will be available soon on the internets.
Here's the schedule if anyone is interested
LTU - Lithuania hosts youth tournament as teams fine tune for U19 Worlds|FIBA.COM

And U19 World championship starts at the 30th of June in Latvia. And what do you know you and us are in the same group

opposite? All I see, they are very similar, and I watched Jonas all year...

Jonas has great hands.

Not a jump shooter, but he shoot FTs 87% so it shows he can develop his shot. He believes he can hit 15-17 foot jumpers, but he never been used that way. I watched Lithuania u19 - Brazil u19 game 3 days ago, Jonas attempted one mid range jumper and it was nothing but net.

He has the same footwork and quickness like Z had.

Z is definitely more skilled in that video, but he is 22 there, while Jonas just turned 19. When Pau Gasol was 19, he had no post move set at all, and now he is most skilled big in the NBA. Jonas is quick learner, 2 years ago he played in the Lithuanian second league, last year he joined Euroleague team, and now he is top 5 NBA draft pick...

If Valanciunas plays I'd say 30 points and 15 boards for him. And a 15 point victory for Lithuania.

Good pick in that he has notable upside as a two way center, which is rare these days, and we can tuck him away for a year and tank tank tank. This is a promising indication that BC is dedicated to handling this rebuild the right way: slowwwwly.

As much as I wanted Bismack, it probably would've been a pick that catered to Bargs' weaknesses. I think this pick will eventually spell the end of Bargs in Toronto, as a Val/Davis frontcourt looks real nice for years to come.

And welcome, Lithuanian comrades.

i like this pick,

4 reasons why i like the draft pick

develops in europe

becomes a big trade chip

dissapointed when we selected then shortly realized the picks after him were not that great, would be surprised to see anyone from 6 to 10 become a allstar type player

last reason and most important, BC not panic drafting to save his job and is commiting to a proper rebuild, next year Myck Kabongo future toronto raptor

I think people overlook the fact that Lithuania has one of the most basketball rich traditions in Europe. They have produced some very smart players over the years and especially big men.

I think Jonas will develop into a very capable NBA player and a solid center that can be relied upon on a nightly basis. He has a good frame and all he needs to do is add some muscle. He is still young and has a chance of growing.

I look forward to seeing this young man develop.

Hell, it's so funny to see Cle. fans ishing around that they didn't got JV and picked Triston, when they could have a future C, and the Raptors fans are ishing that they don't need him. No wonder that players doesn't want to play in Toronto.

Good thing we didn't draft him to write essays.

Seriously, some of the criticisms that are coming out are based on nothing substantial. The kid will learn English just fine.

It hasn't been long at all yet. We're one year in. Sure last year sucked, but we should all be able to handle another one like it if it means landing another top 5 pick in what looks to be a much better draft.

i'm really happy with the pick. Personally i thought we could be competitve in the east next year with some FA and trades but next year's draft is a good one so this may well be better. wasn't fun losing al the time last year but when you refocus on watching players improve game by game it keeps the interest going. Derozan suddenly knocking down med range shots and hitting all his FT was great for me.

next year we see some exciting stuff out of bayless, derozan, ed and then hopefully year after we will be a good team.

is anybody a bit worried we might get stuck in 9th/10th and not get the pick or the good season?
