Default Val #3 20 year old in NBA

Quote:
3. Jonas Valanciunas, Raptors

Every season, we are reminded that big men often develop later than expected. DeAndre Jordan, Kosta Koufos, JaVale McGee -- the list is long and impressive. The best thing about Valanciunas, besides his size and hands, is that he is just 20, which is very young for a big man.

Valanciunas does not project as strongly as some bigs who are better athletes -- he is not that nimble on defense and not an above-the-rim player -- but he is active enough to start for a lot of good teams going forward.

He is already a good rebounder with room to improve and has a Rasheed Wallace-type perimeter shot with a high release, making it very hard to contest. (He brings his feet too close together when he shoots, but that will be easy to fix.) I also like how he sets screens with a wide base and patience. In time, the ability to screen well, coupled with his strong hands, will make him a good pick-and-roll player. And when his perimeter shot improves, he will be a strong offensive weapon.

From ESPN. They have Barnes and Sullinger ahead of him.

man I can't wait! I didn't know sullinger was 20? sullinger is undersized. I would have JV ahead of him. haven't watched barnes at all nor tracked him so I can't say anything there. I wonder if out of the 19-20 year olds he'd be as high? I'd put him ahead of drummond, not so sure bout davis

there's no reason whatsoever why either of those guys should be ahead of val.

barnes as a really good potential.
Sullinger was a favorite of mine during the draft, even with his back trouble.
to me he is a great energiser at pf. if if disk can be good in the futur, maybe he could be a top PF.
JV to me is that great kid, big, whom play with out fear. but he need to calm down a little bit and act better/be more efficient on the court.

that'll come with experience. I remember how much faster the game seemed to me in grade 9 as opposed to grade 11, or even grade 10 for that matter.

I really like Barnes. I think he's going to be a very good started (Luol Deng type) once he gets better.

That being said, JV based on current fundamentals and potential alone should be leagues ahead of both.

If you read the article it discusses how Barnes numbers match up to Pierces when he came in the league and how if he was getting more touches he would be better. I find it funny that he says he ranks Jonas lower due to his lack of elite athleticism. Other than Howard there are not many great centers with elite athleticism. I think he has a quick first step and can see his offensive game turning into an Al Jefferson/Nene combo. I just see his motor as setting him apart from most 20 year old bigs.

aren't you the one that consistantly rags on ross for being nothing but a show wing? not that I disagree with you, but using a highlight dunk to show a kid's skill and potential being greater than a funamental legit 7 foot centre who works hard isn't really proving your point. comeon SJ ur better than that!

This is why I never watch/read interviews by lithuanian "journalists". They ask a stupid boring unrelated question and expect that they'll get a sensational groundbreaking answer. And I don't know if they learn it in some special retards school (it's ok for me to insult Lithuanians, couse I am one myself), but each and every time they ask stuff about someone's elses' business, like in this case they ask Washington's GM about raptors' and rockets' inside business
Lithuanian media is hardly better than russian or north korean

That's more TORap's posting history on Ross. If you do a search history, you can find posts of SJ being quite compimentary of Ross. It's only recently that SJ has been dissapointed with Ross's apparent lack of focus, possibly due to the dunk contest.

If you're going to rag on posters, at least get thier views straight. Come on, Pzabby, you're better than that.

On a more serious note, Barnes is treated like a 4th option most nights because he is on a playoff calibre team. If he was on Cleveland instead of Dion Waiters, Barnes would probably be averaging 15 points and 6 boards right now.

I don't think there's any way Barnes or Sullinger have better careers barring unforseen injury.
