USA Today: VC voted Greatest Raptor

I posted this in today's Raptorland thread, but I thought it deserved its own thread. :)

So, what do think guys?

Top 5 Raptors of all-time:

1) Vince Carter
2) Chris Bosh
3) Damon Stoudamire
4) Tracy McGrady
5) Antonio Davis

For his short tenure, you cant dispute what Carter did on and off the court. He'll be remembered for being a little bitch his final couple of seasons here, but when he was on, he was unstoppable and put Toronto on the basketball map. He was also very charitable with his time, donating money to different causes and helped build basketball courts across the city

Wow.

did they poll anyone who actually lived here?

Yeah, Leo was one of the voters SJ .... the man that public bashes Vince every time he visits the ACC. :cwm34:

Hard to argue with that list. It is a "to-date" list.

It will look drastically different in 5 years. Something like:

1) Chris Bosh
2) Jose Calderon
3) VC
4) Bargs
5) Tracy McGrady

Superjudge 02-28-2008 10:43 AM

Well it isn't accurate.

Bosh has done more.

His contributions are not on the stat sheet, or in the media, they are in the room, at the core of the franchise.

Benzo 02-28-2008 11:01 AM

Morris Peterson> Antonio Davis.

Acie 02-28-2008 11:11 AM

Maybe Leo's reaching out to Vince? lol

westbeach 02-28-2008 11:24 AM

Alonzo Mourning? hahaha.

sorry Benzo, but for those two years that Davis was our centre, he was very good. Probably the best few years a centre has had in Toronto.

And i totally agree with SJ. Bosh HAS done more than Vince at this point. Bosh get's my first place vote.

Acie 02-28-2008 12:30 PM

Vince did more externally for the franchise, but he also negated anything good he did by all of the crap he pulled.

Wow.

I hate Vince but its not even close. Hes way ahead of Bosh at the moment.

Superjudge 02-28-2008 12:51 PM

In your mind maybe.

Not mine.

He left this team a laughing stock.

Bosh turned it into a Phoenix, and this shit is rising.

Vince made us relevant in baskteball discussions both for positive reasons and negative reasons. And if I were to base this on talent alone then yes, VC would be the greatest Raptor ever. However, he was and is the biggest waste of talent the Raptors had as well and that just tells you how good this guy could have been.

INSIDER 02-28-2008 01:09 PM

i hate to admit it, but that list is pretty much correct.
give bosh 1 more full season and he gets the numero uno spot... but for now, VC will get the nod.
i know hate can cloud our judgement easily, but if you look past his last 2 months here, you would be hardpressed putting someone else above him.
he was everything to this franchise, he could do no wrong.
go watch a few youtube videos from 1999 or 2000 to see wht i mean... i bet you feel all nostalgic... i bet you get that feeling for a second or two... that feeling of being a fan again... that feeling of pride.
yeah it'll disapeer as soon as the video ends, but you cant deny it.
put your hate aside for a bit and really think about it. you'll understand my POV.

thats why we hate him so much... cause we loved him so much.
i dispise the guy and will never be a fan of his again... but i remember when i was a fan of his, and i will never forget it either.

My hate isn't in the equation when I look at it. Mostly cuz I dont hate vince.

I just think his body of work, if left at say, year 4, was awesome, but unfortunately he had a whilelonger to really ruin that, so as far as "greatness" is concerned, I can't put him in here as great.

Bosh however is still great.

I'd swap them.

Anyhow if you look at the numbers, the totals for all players, Vince and Bosh got equal the vote pecentage wise, plus/minus a few decimals.

It aint like they said he was a landslide All time great Raptor.

fair poll, over the top headline I guess.

IggyPosterizes 02-28-2008 04:38 PM

at the moment, there is no doubt he is the greatest. He was one game away from taking us to our first championship series.

Bosh will eventually take over but as for now there is no contention.

BballWatcher 02-28-2008 04:48 PM

The Dunk Contest alone puts Vince ahead of CB4.

Once Bosh and co. get us past the first round once or twice though, it will be reversed.

While Vince is probably #1 currently on all-time Raptors, he's also probably #1 on the most-hated former Raptors. Two edges to the sword.

pimpery 02-28-2008 10:24 PM

Vince is def the greatest raptor of all time atm.. he got us to the 2nd round of the playoffs, got us on NBC regularly on sundays and made us a real franchise, love him or hate him, he helped this franchise a ton in worldwide recognition.

Im sorry, did some1 actually put Bargs on the top 5 raptors ever? God thats so sad...

Ill add a few names ppl prob dont think were great but i liked, best bench player Keon Clark :P I loved Oak aswell, AD was much more important to raps then Mopete IMO, and what about the longest serving raptor (not sure if he is anymore) Alvin Williams? I thot he played hard for us.
