As Jeff said, in general, there have been rumours about moving Gasol for over a year due to various reasons, like his inclusion in the failed Chris Paul deal. The most recent reason being the fit with Dantoni and his struggling play.

The Toronto connection is just one of those things that makes sense based on the limitations of Gasol's salary for finding trade partners, the Lakers hole at PG, and Toronto's frustration with Bargnani. A deal involving Cadly, Bargs, and Gasol fits teem needs and salary restrictions. All kinds of message board joe schmos recognized this within minutes of people calling for Bargnani's head. Then Grange picked up on it and put it in his article. And now it's snowballing. Who knows if the GMs actuallly like it at all or will actually consider doing it?
Yeah meant Toronto. Personally not a fan of it..

I'll repeat, getting Gasol for Bargnani and Calderon would be one of the best things to ever happen to the Raptors. Gasol is exactly the kind of player I'd want JV to evolve into.

If Colangelo pulled it off, I'd forgive him for all his failures this year. It would be such a coup for us, I almost would think it just can't happen. Good things just don't happen to this team. Kind of like getting Tyson Chandler for Calderon. Wow, how different would our fortunes be?

Gasol for both Jose and AB would be bad. Sorry for repeating.

It would be good pick up. If we could somehow dump Landry in the process that would be ideal. That will give us some serious cap space for 14.

Some of the three team trades suggested will be good as well. Where Gasol goes somewhere, we get a close to all-star type wing, and lakers get bargnani.

Lowry/sign better backup
Derozan/Ross/Anderson
Chandler/pietrus
Gasol/Davis/acy
Valanciunas/gray

Gasol trade. Then try to pull off a Amir for Wilson chandler, but they would most likely ask for Ed. We could sign Anderson or k Mart for some added depth.

I can't see anyone wanting to take on that contract.

When Steve Nash signed with the Los Angeles Lakers, a source says he was promised that Pau Gasol would not be traded.

Nash was also considering offers from the Raptors and Knicks.

When Nash returns and plays with Gasol, the Lakers could conceivably ask him to reconsider.

Nash signed with the Lakers prior to their acquisition of Dwight Howard.

With Gasol struggling, his name has surfaced in trade speculation.

these rumours started because Lakers want to get rid of Gasol because he doesnt fit the D'antoni system. . . . . . . . Bargnani however would, they need a stretch 4, someone who can shoot 3s. and Raptors want to get rid of Bargnani. . . . . . . . That wont be enough of course, and the Lakers desperately need someone to backup Nash and the raps have Calderon, another guy that would fit well under D'antoni.

Of course this wouldnt be the lakers first choice, they seem to like Ryan Anderson. There's also Josh Smith talk - but josh smith can't shoot, he can run the floor and is a solid defender though. but would the hawks want Gasol?

And Anderson has been playing great and is on a cheap contract which is why i dont think the hornets give him up for an injury prone aging star.

so, i think the Raptors are a possibility here. and I like the idea, because the Bargnani and Calderon era is done here and Gasol is a huge risk but i think it'll be worth it. i dont see us getting anymore than Gasol (unfortunately he could very well be damaged goods)

Rival executives believe the most likely landing spot for Gasol is Toronto, which could offer Andrea Bargnani in return and bolster the Lakers' point- guard deficiency with Jose Calderon, who is backing up Kyle Lowry.

Sources say Raptors GM Bryan Colangelo has shown no willingness to part with Bargnani, but if pressure mounts for him to bolster the team's youth movement and win now by adding a veteran with All-Star credentials like Gasol, that could change. CBSSports.com

It is clear now that Colangelo at some point in around when Bargnani was 15, Sandusky'd him.
