Default Updated: No surgery for Bargnani at the end of the season

Don't know if this is an old news, but the largest italian sport newspaper has published this on its web site:
Bargnani deve operarsi*Nazionale a rischio? - Basket: ultime notizie e risultati pallacanestro - La Gazzetta dello Sport

Of course is in italian, but it says that Andrea is waiting the end of the season to decide if get or not surgery for a problem to the Achilles tendon and his presence with the national team is in doubt.

I guess this could explain some of his iconsistency at times. But with Andrea it's hard to tell anymore.

i know this may sound kind of counter-productive considering the UN basketball team we've assembled but...

Hedo, Bargs and Jose should NOT be even CONSIDERING international basketball this summer.

Hedo plays his heart out for Turkey then shows up to training camp drained.
Jose does the same, and mangles his health for the rest of the season.
Eventually this has to stop. BC's gotta draw a line eventually.

We should do that with all the players if Bosh is playing this yyear. We should see how our team is with everyone rested up. Should be good considering we have never had that xD

you have to give Bargs credit, nobody even knew he had injury problems

i remember when this happened a few months ago, it was a nothing play and he lifted his foot up quickly in pain

but on a toughness level, Bargs must be up there in the league, he got cranked by amir elbow still played that off, he pushed Jax off last game, the only problem its not transfering to his rebounding, even though it's way better than last years

but it does make sense, when was the last time you see Bargs drive past a guy and dunk it, the lakers game? its been a while

Well guys, from a team point of view i can agree with you. But for any player, in any sport, wear the national team shirt is an honour.
Avoiding the national team can make some fans happy, but a nation angry

If a player has NEVER played for his national team I can understand that..... but Hedo and Jose have played many seasons for their countries.

At some point you have to draw the line if you want to be an NBA player and get PAID like an NBA player.

It's not fair to their teams at all.

I think you should play but when your body starts to age, you should try to get your rest

steve nash gave tons of years to the national team, doesn't play anymore and no one cares because he did his work

bargs, and jose should play

this should be turks last year because the tourney is in Turkey, so after this year turk shouldn't play

bargs should play but the only reason why raps fans get upset about this Rimpianto, is Garbo playing injured, jose geting hurt right after he signs a massive contract never played at the level he played before the contract,

and Bargs where after his first year he looked great, played on the national team, got cut down by his coaches and lost his confidence, the second year with the Raptors was his worst and a wash

raptor repaired his game in the 3rd season, Bargs played with the italian team in the summer comes back not as good, took him tell late december to starting going good again,

Lol.... you know as well as I do that the Americans are in a unique situation with so much talent available.

Even so... if they really do want to go owners should be able to have some sort of insurance or void their contracts if they get injured.

Not fair to those teams at all.

Sticky situation with the whole across-sea basketball situation. I think the players play with more pride for their country than the team which pays you millions of dollars, and set your kids, kids up with money and a reputation if you don't barkley it all away.

In every other sport is just like this, rugby, volleyball, football (soccer). And there're some football players that get same ammount of money and they play with the national team alsoduring the season. And they may get injured in those matches.

Anyway, i think that the subject of this post is not players playing for their national teams, but seems that Bargs is injured.

False alarm, it would seem: [Comment From JamesJames: ]
An Italian newspaper reports that Bargnani will operate on his achilles tendon at the end of the year. Is this true?

And Italian newspaper is dead wrong; I'll have more on it in the morning

[Comment From PaoloPaolo: ]
Doug I love your articles and I'm a your fan, but from Italy I have to say that the italian newspaper is the best and more read sportive one. And normally it report real stories

I understand that entirely, the Pink Paper is the bible; they've got this one wrong

So Andrea goes for 21 points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots and my first thought is:

Not bad for a guy facing Achilles surgery.

Except that he’s not.

There was a report out of Italy, from the highly respected Gazzetto Gazzetta dello Sport, that said Bargnani was possibly going to have surgery when the season ends. Took about six seconds and one e-mail to debunk the story because not only is no surgery planned or expected, he hasn’t had any issues with his Achilles according to the folks I talked to.

And then Andrea himself shot down the story after the game.

File that one under the much-ado-about-nothing category.

It may be that the information about any soreness got over-blown – it wouldn’t be the first time that’s happened – or it may be that Andrea knows he’s going to have to get some rest when the season ends and this might be a way to set up a summer idle from his national team obligations.

Bu whatever it is, they are not sharpening the scalpels.
