Exclamation UPDATED: Jawai Out For Another 6 Weeks

He might be able to starting training and practicing as soon as this weekend guys.

But, he could also be sidelined another 6 weeks for most tests too.

Jawai has had two visits to an American cardiac specialist for further testing and while signs have been fairly positive, he won't know his immediate future until after a further meeting with Raptors medical personnel this weekend. Depending on this latest report, Jawai could be back in training by as early as tomorrow or face a further six weeks on the sidelines.

"He's obviously scared. To have someone say that you've got to shut it down and not do anything for now is definitely concerning, because you just don't know where your career is going," said Aaron Fearne, the former Cairns Taipans assistant coach who has been assisting Jawai in the transition from NBL Rookie of the Year to the NBA.

I will say this when he gets back playing if all checks out he is going me one angry active Aussie. I honestly think Nate can be a big part of this team in the future if he gets these issues behind him.

At least he can look at Ronny Turiaf and take some solace in that. If HE can play Jawai's got a shot.

i just want him to be able to play, i don't even care how good he is because right now the bigs aren't really the main concern on the team
and i just want him to be able to suit so we can say there is another active player on our roster so it is not as thin and there are some more "options" whether its in game or for potential trades

I'm pulling for this guy.

I've sort of had a soft spot for him ever since he was drafted by us...the Australian shaq.

I think he'd definitely adopt JO's intense mindset going into games, he seems like a beast.

Let's hope we get this guy on the roster.

I heard he's about 6 foot 9 and around 280 pounds. He can sure throw some bodies around there in the paint.

Things aren't looking too good for Nathan.

But the 22-year-old now faces another anxious wait on medical tests to determine if he has an NBA future. Jawai has already been sidelined for two months after doctors discovered in pre-season testing that he had an enlarged heart.

He was hoping follow-up tests would clear him for his NBA debut, but The Sunday Telegraph can reveal Jawai has been advised to rest for another six weeks. If there is no change in that time, Jawai faces a big decision - quit, or take his chances playing with the Raptors.

Jawai's agent Daniel Moldovan is confident the basketballer from the remote north Queensland village of Bamaga will be back on the training court within six weeks.

"The doctors are being extra cautious,'' Moldovan said. "It was their recommendation - not their demand - that Nate take another six weeks off. When you're dealing with the heart it's got to be taken seriously.

Being extra cautious makes a hell of a lot of sense, so I'm not ready to write him off yet.

Doesn't Lance Armstrong have an enlarged heart. It would be nice if it gave Jawai a motor like that. Is it also a sign of growth hormones and such though? There always has to be the suspicions I guess.

We're not going to be seeing much of the guy this year. Another 6 weeks on the shelf, then if cleared, how long to get into shape? And having to learn the league after that. At this point I'm just hoping he'll be ready for some minutes next season.
