But Ford is still currently on the team. For him to leave the Raptors would have to take back equal cap value or pretty close anyway. So his cap figure stays on there.

$15,779,912 (Bosh) + $8,500,000 (equal to Ford's contract) + $6,212,960 (Kapono) = $30,492,872

Thats excluding Joey Graham's $3,441,104 and Andrea Bargnani's $6,527,490 team option. If Graham isn't back then still thats not enough cap space to do anything of significance.

I am all in for this deal:

T.J. Ford
Rasho Nesterovic
Joey Graham
#17 pick

for

Jermaine O'Neal

Love this trade jus imagine the backcourt of Chris Bosh and Jermaine O'Neal and if the Raptors can get a Small Forward in Free Agency the Raptors will be in the thick of the east

Raptors Line-up

PG- Jose Calderon/ Roko Ukic
SG- Anthony Parker/ Carlos Delfino
SF- Jamario Moon/ Jason Kapono/ FA
PF- Chris Bosh/ Andrea Bargnani/ Kris Humphries(if he comes back)/ Maceo Baston
C- Jermaine O'Neal/ Andrea Bargnani/ Maceo Baston

Add some more players through a couple of minor trades or the Free Agency and you have a good playoff team that can go far.

I'd rather them spend their money in free agency on a backup PG. Or split the money between a PG and a wing.

don't overlook JO's interior defense. A guy like magetter will only bring you offense -but with JO, our defense will be much improved too. And it will free Bosh on offense - which could mean 24ppg+ for CB4. The more I think about it, the more I love this deal.

However, I thought there's a rule in the league that you can't trade your 1st round pick two years in a row, isn't that still in effect?

That is correct, they can't trade their 1st round pick two years in a row but theres no rule against them selecting the guy the Pacers want with the pick and then pulling the trigger on the trade.

ok - so that means that we can't trade for O'Neal until AFTER the draft?

It means they can't trade for O'Neal until after the Raptors make the 17th overall selection. Anyway, it sounds like its not going to happen now:

Quote:
Talks between the Toronto Raptors and Indiana Pacers about a trade that would have included Jermaine O’Neal and T.J. Ford fell apart on Monday afternoon, a league executive with knowledge of the negotiations said.

For the past two days, Toronto GM Bryan Colangelo had been pushing the idea of sending Ford, Rasho Nesterovic and the No. 17 pick in Thursday’s draft for O’Neal. For a few hours on Monday, there was a sense that the deal was close, but ultimately concerns over the damaged state of O’Neal and Ford were too much to consummate the trade.

What the hell! That is a bummer and he said they were close. At this rate we are doomed to be out of the 1st round until Bosh leaves.

If it's too good to be true it probably is.

BTW, Yngwie stinks.

Can't stay he stink under any circumstance. You can say you don't like him though. I'd be cool with that.
Celtics deal was too good to be true and it still happened. It has nothing to do with that.

I was just teasing you.

Good point, but this is the Raptors we're taking about, not the Celtics. We don't catch too many breaks.

The most annoying this about this deal is that probably the deal that actually happen will always be measured against the "what ifs", especially if O'Neal has a great season ...

I'd go for it

Great interior defender and work well beside Bosh... Plus he's not that old, he's just injured. And I think if he was on a playoff team, he would try harder than what he did this last year in Indiana.

Great salary cap room when he expires in 0'10.

And potentially, we could say fuck you to the Bargnani at C deal. Actually the fact that Colangelo is considered this could be reason for that anyways.

I'd do it only if we can keep the #17 pick.

Maybe TJ, Rasho and ______ (Joey, Humpy, Parker) for JO.

lol - Bargnani is 7', so he will be a center or nothing. I'm pretty sure Colangelo has a lot of faith in Bargnani. If anything, this trade will help Andreea develop, because there won't be as much pressure on him to produce at C for a couple of years.
