Agent: Bargnani gets extension

Hedo Turkoglu is on the way and it appears that Andrea Bargnani will also soon have his long-term future secured with the Toronto Raptors.

Bargnani's agent, Leon Rose, told ESPN.com on Tuesday night that the Raptors -- who later this week will officially sign Turkoglu away from Orlando -- have reached an agreement in principle on a contract extension for the 7-foot Italian, who was selected No. 1 overall by the Raptors in the 2006 draft.

The deal, according to NBA front-office sources, would span five seasons starting in 2010-11 and earn Bargnani an estimated $50 million.

Rose declined to discuss contract specifics.

Formally signing Bargnani to an extension this month, coupled with Turkoglu's forthcoming arrival, would give the Raptors a firm handle on at least two-thirds of their frontline for the next few years, as they continue to try to convince face of the franchise Chris Bosh to commit his long-term future to the team.

Bosh is also eligible for a contract extension later this month but has said he is intent on playing out next season and waiting until the highly anticipated summer of 2010 to decide whether to stay in Canada or relocate.

Senior writer Marc Stein covers the NBA for ESPN.com.

Great. Very glad to hear it, and I look forward to Bargnani backing that up this season.

Isn't Millsap looking for 12-13?

THE NEWS JUST KEEPS GETTING BETTER!!!:clapping:

Jakkal 07-08-2009 12:12 AM

10 per year woot that's a steal figured it might take 14+ if he had another improved year

Febreezy 07-08-2009 12:30 AM

That's a steal.
If he keeps improving that is.

Toebee 07-08-2009 12:32 AM

I ain't mad at BC. At least I know Turk and Bargs will be in T.O. for a while.

p2thaizarts 07-08-2009 12:48 AM

That's definitely an agreeable price in my opinion. I also believe he hasn't hit his ceiling yet, and we'll likely be underpaying him immensely when he does.

Just wish we knew the deal on Bosh.

i think its a good deal both ways, i mean look at all the work turky boy had to do to earn at 10mil contract, and ppl say he isnt worth it.... AB has had half a year in his career that warrants that kind of $, but based on age, potential and his seemingly good work ethic, it's more then fair to think he will continue on the path and be worth this kind of $, worht more?? im not sure, fair deal that allows flexability in future and more $ on contract if for w/e reason we want to move him one day = great signing

logicz 07-08-2009 02:17 AM

yaaa. way to go. bargs future franchise player:yeah:

bogus 07-08-2009 02:17 AM

Great news! Glad we signed him before the year begins.

Good job BC now all thats left is bosh:dancing::yeah:

Shifty.py 07-08-2009 03:36 AM

So all long term players we will have are all European?
Calderon, Bargnani, Turkoglu?
Whos next? After Bosh bolts we go after Nowitzki? And Ginobili?
Some starting 5

henrymakepeace 07-08-2009 03:58 AM

I'd trade Bosh for Nowitzki any day.

Dirk only has a couple good years of basketball left in him
Bosh has 10

Windex 07-08-2009 04:43 AM

this is a good deal considering he can average 20/8 soon and Centers are usually overpaid just for averaging 10/5 for a season

Bosh got a four-year, $65 million extension in '06
