Yea, this was a great move. I thought that we'd be giving him around $13-$15 million per year if he has a good season, which he should.

Although, considering next year's cap level is expected to be around $53 million, this could have been a smart move by Bargs' agent too. We know Bosh, Wade, and LeBron will still be getting theirs. But the rest of the players will be receiving less money than they could have. I'm sure many top-tier players will have to settle for about $10/year instead of $13-$14/year.

Surely they have to add something to the mix. Bosh being from Dallas might make them very eager to get him (and Bosh eager to go too?).

I'm not a Nowitzki fan, so I wouldn't do it if they didn't add a lot, but if they would I'd take it serious.

That's a hell of a deal. Look at Mehmet Okur. Smaller, hasn't half of Bargs skills, terrible defender...

He earned almost the same amount some years ago. BTW I think BC could have made a better deal (maybe 45, 48M), but it doesn't change a lot. It'll boost Bargnani, once he sees he's the face of this franchise

Bargnani will never be the true face of the franchise(if we ever have any chance of actually winning a lot). But for 10 million its a bargain compared to what he'd likely get next offseason if he put up 18-20 ppg this year. Potential+good breakout year=max deal most of the time and that would have killed us in the longterm.

Okur is 6-11 which is almost 7 feet tall and he is not that bad of a defender as you thought. He doesn't look so but when he wants to play defense, he is very good. Remember he also defended Yao very well in the playoffs.

Well, maybe not so good against Shaq though

Who the fuck cares where they're from if they can play? And those 3 can play. I'm getting real tired of comments like these as the inference is the players aren't as good as - or are 'softer' - than American players. Maybe we should have locked up POB instead and made him the starting C - he's American. How about Eddy Curry - because you know he's not soft or anything. I'm sure NY would consider a Bargnani for Curry deal. Maybe we could get them to throw in Duhon and Jared Jeffries if we included Calderon and Turkoglu. We'd be as American as apple pie then.

Would that work better for you?

Phew .... that's some good news and nice to see Bargnani locked up for at least the next 6 years.

It's a good deal assuming he improves rather than digresses.

It also increases his trade value. Thats an easy contract to work with.

Good move.

I hope will still have money 5 years years from now, when we have to sign Turk and Bargs and others.

Too bad, NY won't take that deal maltmonger. They only take expiring contracts.

It is true that when an athletic American player is signed to a huge contract it doesn't create many wows and whistles. It's only when a non-American guy gets some money they've deserved, it's a big deal.

I'm actually surprised this got done so early on in the summer. BC will either look like a genius or a fool at the end of next season, hopefully it's the former.

Okur is one of the worst defensive big guys in the league! At 6'11 and with his weight everyone can block some shots and make some nice plays. But everyone outplays him in the post... Bargs has much more defensive potential

I like Memo, but he's really poor defensively. BTW Bargnani is also a better shooter and better all around player
