Exclamation Ulmer: Trio of Bosh, Lebron and Wade are colluding the league

I know we have a million conversations along the same lines going on, but I really think this deserves it's own thread.

Quote:
All involved have denied a basketball summit took place this weekend between Chris Bosh, LeBron James and Dwyane Wade.

Good that they did. No one affiliated with the guys in the short pants is anxious to highlight the most shining example of collusion in the history of the sport.

Yes, collusion. I know, the present sporting definition of the term collusion denotes owners and managers who conspire to control their astonishingly well-paid serfs.

Well, it’s time to fix the word.

When you collude, you shape the game to your own purposes. You destroy the competitive balance (as much as you can destroy a system where the Lakers and Celtics have won half the championships in the last 30 years).

When Wade, Bosh and LeBron decide which city they will choose, or even two of them will choose, the rest of the league will grapple with an unprecedented transfer of power. This is a transformation orchestrated by the players and their agents. The vertical, the owners and managers acquire players, the players go where they are told in exchange for an extravagant salary (and eventual free agency) is in shambles.

For the NBA, this is a nightmare. This trio of players is so accomplished, should they choose the same business address they instantly create the league’s most dominant team.

The sheer amount of money is staggering. Over the next four, based on a maximum salary and $10 million a year in endorsements, the three players will combine for about $312,000,000 in salary and endorsements.

I'm not convinced they're a lock to win championships, or even one championship right off the bat.

The transfer of power on paper may be unprecedented, unlike anything the league has ever seen before. Right now the whole fucking NBA is being looked at as the underdog with these three egotistical douches on the top looking down. You can bet that every single player in the league not named Lebron, Chris, or Dwyane is sick of hearing about 2010 this, 2010 that.

If I'm Kobe, if I'm Dwight Howard, if I'm anyone in a position to put these fucks in their place I'm doing everything I can during the offseason, the pre-season, the regular season, the playoffs, whenever, to prove to everyone that three selfish stars can't make an instant dynasty, that they're human, and that they can be beaten just like anyone else.

I think it'll be good for the league.

Kobe wasn't even 100% this year and still took his team to win a championship. I so can't wait for next season to begin where those 3 come together and not make it to playoffs; i'll laugh so hard if that happen and I say so will everyone around the world.

I still don't understand why everyone has their panties in a bunch over this.

There's no guarantee that they'd win the title next season.

As good as all of them are they're just 3 players.... they're going to need a bench too.

All you have to do is decide that one or more of them isn't going to get "superstar calls" anymore and that player will disintegrate off the face of the earth.

Not hard to keep a team down if you want.

I agree its not true that them together would be an instant title and you would still need a bench but remember everyone said the same together when the boston big three got together, who at the time, weren't half as talented as these three put together. Its true boston lucked out and somehow managed to get a bench, but at the time they were considered a bunch of scrubs. The big three made their benchbetter, and I think this big three would do even more,so that's why I think everyone is scared.

I remember a time when Gary Payton, Karl Malone, Shaq and Kobe all colluded and lost. It might actually be funny to see it again.

A thought I guess. Payton and Malone weren't two of the three best players in the league though.

I really don't understand why people have a problem with this. Kobe was criticized for trying to win on his own, and LBJ, Wade, and Bosh are getting criticized for trying to win with others.

No matter what these players do, people will find something to bitch about.

I don't have a problem with this. I just think it proves your soft and proves your not a competitor. Theres a nickname for that, it's called ringchaser.

just wondering, after they sign all three players can't they sign all the veterans in the league with the vet minimum. If they can, that will be amazing to watch, imagine rasheed, iverson, jo, shaq, all going there. actually i dunt know if they free agents but im sure there are alot out there that don't mind getting the vet minimum for a chance to win a ring

I guess I have a problem with it. Don't know why. Just rubs me the wrong way somehow.
David Stern has been pretty invisible throughout all this. Surprised that he hasn't had a 'don't fuck with me' attitude in dealing with this shit show of players, agents and owners jockeying around for position well before the free agency period begins. But I guess Stern has never had a problem suspending the rules in instances where there is money to be made and the leagues reputation is not tarnished in an obvious way.

Again.... if more GMs understood how to build a team properly.... and not simply rely on their one star to carry the franchise, this wouldn't be happening.

I don't necessarily think it's that. Having so many teams dilutes the talent pool. The greatness isn't as concentrated as it used to be.

Wait, how many star players are in the NBA? Maybe 10-15. Theres about 30 teams in the NBA. Are star players supposed to fall off from the sky?

So these three guys are making it all possible? They are calling up team after team and telling them to throw all their players overboard. Cut your rosters down to 4 or 5 and we'll talk, they say, and the teams have no choice but to do as they wish. Is that how it is happening?

What a load of crap that comes right out of the Raptor's organisation. Because that's all they've got. That video of Bosh saying he wanted to be the man came straight from the Raptors media arm and showed up on NBA.com. And then they make a big production about bringing up how it was dated from months in the past. So great - Bosh is the bad guy. Big colluding bad guy that changed his way of thinking. That doesn't exactly make the GM look all that golden to me. And I still see a bunch of teams taking their own actions to try and get at least two of these guys playing together, so how does that make the FA's such all powerful forces of evil?

For the better of this franchise Bosh should leave because he's doing us a massive favour.
