Turkoglu interview

Quote:
MA: Hedo, first of all, congratulations with your new team. Just after the news came up that you agreed on terms with Portland, it was revealed that you've chosen Toronto instead. What happened in Portland? Why have you changed your mind the last minute?

Hedo: I'd like to thank to the Portland front office in the first place. They hosted me very well and showed a great sense of hospitality. In the airport they made a welcome that I'll never be able to forget. But at the end of the day I've decided that Portland is not the best team in terms of my goals. I've been playing in the Eastern Conference for five years and to be honest, I've got used to both living in the East and the playing style of the Eastern Conference. Turning back to the Western Conference would've been a strange experience for me. It wouldn't be easy to accomodate to the basketball being played there again. I've been already negotiating with the Raptors front office and I've selected them after a satisfying offer came from Brian Colangelo.

MA: It's claimed that your spouse, Banu, is the main factor in your decision. Is it true?

Hedo: You know, I'm a married guy. Of course I'll ask for my family's advice before making a decision about my career and my future. All in all there can't be a more reasonable thing than me receiving my wife's opinion about my signing. We're talking about a long amount of time as five years and I'm not moving on my own. My wife has always backed me up on my decisions. Going to Toronto is my decision and she supported that. That's all.

MA: Portland is building its future upon three players: Brandon Roy, Lamarcus Aldridge and Greg Oden. But in Toronto you'll be one of the main pieces in the puzzle with Chris Bosh. Has the magnitude of your role in Toronto effected your decision?

Hedo: Yeah, you're right, I would've been mentoring young and talented players in Portland. But in Toronto, they'll build the team around me and Bosh. Furthermore, it's a big advantage for me that there are great European players like Jose Calderon and Andrea Bargnani in roster. These are the reasons why I've selected Toronto.

MA: Let's talk about financial issues. From what we've heard Portland's offer was 50 million/5 years. After it's been claimed that it was 57 million. Which one was correct?

Hedo: The first one. Portland offered me 50 million/5 years.

MA: Then what's the numbers Toronto has offered? Is it 60-61 million dollars as it was issued in an article in NBA.com?

Hedo: No, it's an inflated number. From what I've heard some people in Turkey even claimed that I was going to take 80-90 million per 5 years. I can't understand how they're making these numbers up really. My lawyer takes care of these things so I can't give an exact number.

MA: A number between 53 and 56 million is being mentioned?

Hedo: Yeah, we'll agree on an amount close to that. But I must say, even if Toronto gave me the same amount of money as Portland, I'd make the same choice.

The rest of the interview is about Magic. Hedo tells that he's been very disappointed with the Carter trade and he's decided to leave the team after that

He should be mad after the Carter trade, but it was reported that he was gonna opt out before the deal was struck. Orlando was just trying to find a replacement.

He didn't like the Carter trade to Orlando or to the Nets?

What a better way to publicly win over us fans than by leaving your former team cause Vince Carter was traded their.

Orlando management showed no class by being disloyal to a player (and some others) who served them so well. I hope they will 'enjoy' Carter's services.

VC is not going to succeed...he's not a good enough passer. No offense to Jameer, but Turk was the PG of that team. Jameer was merely the ball carrier up the court...and pick-and-roll with Howard, when Turk was busy counting cash with Ricky Lewis (I call him that, dont mention it)

The bottom part of the interview is missing. I've just translated it for you.

---

M.A: Let's talk about what happened with your 'former team' a bit now. What do you think about that the team you served for five years and even after a season you went all the way to the finals chose to work behind your back and went for another player?

H.T: I don't want to go into that really because it makes me sad. They chose a different path and made a move for that. I respect that and I go on my own path.

M.A: The rumour is that Orlando made an offer and you rejected it. So they traded for Vince Carter. Is that true?

H.T: They made me an offer two days before the draft and I told them that I needed a few days to think of it. I, my family and my agent were discussing it over and within two days I heard that they traded for Vince Carter. They didn't call me about that and I was really surprised. I had no option but leave.

carter might have another break out season. He'd always wanted to play for the magic, and he has a tendency to start out with a team really well. Plus he might give it his all because the magic might have another chance ot go back to the finals and win it all. PLzPLzPLzPLz don't let Carter win a championship, ill go apeshyt in this forum APESHYT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!11

Jameer was out for almost half of the season. Alston was the one pretending to play PG

Bah, let Turk bitch about Carter and Orlando, thats his right. Why would we?

Vince will love going home finally to play, and with a damn good team at that. He played decent last year. He's gonna be fine, and a real pain in our asses. It's fun though, it will inspire our team to bust ass!
