TSN's Chisholm's Mid Season Impression of the Raptors

Some of you might remember Tim Chisholm from the interview I did with him at EBS this past summer, but today online at TSN they asked 4 members from various media outlets (Heaney, Doug Smith, Michael Grange and Tim) their opinions on the first half of this season. :)

I think Tim's impression so far has been the best I've read to date so far. Bang on if I say so myself. :golfclap:

While Chris Bosh has looked, at least in the last handful of games, better than he has at perhaps any point in his career, the team around him seems as mediocre as they have in the last sixteen months or so. There is an alarming lack of aggression in any aspect of the way the team plays, particularly as it relates to boxing-out for rebounds or rotating on defense to keep up with ball movement. To watch the Raptors this year has been an exercise in frustration because all too often the team looks satisfied being average. They'll beat the teams they're supposed to beat - despite awkwardly close results - and they'll be satisfied losing to the teams they see as better than they are.

As is so often the case with teams that float around .500, the talent on the roster isn't really the issue, per se, it's the application of that talent that has been suspect, by both players and coaches. As a result, the overall performance of the team so far can be fairly accurately illustrated by their record: just a smidgen above middle-of-the-road.

Yes and no... most of the guys playing have played average...but let's not discount some key injuryies..Bosh, Ford, Garbo... that's huge! MOon has been above average...Delfino in stretches, Humphries, Calderon...lots of inspiring performances, but some let downs as well. We miss the toughness and smarts Garbo brought last year big time... TJ's creativity, offence, defence and leadership and Bosh basically wasn't a factor until 15 games into the season... that's a lot to make due with.

I remember this guy, I ripped him for some of his opinions in that interview. Everyone was saying he was a rare expert and knew his shit but they were wrong. I still laugh that he thought Memphis was gonna make the playoffs. Shows what he knows.

*note to self - be sure not to quote anything Tim says from here on out* :angryfire:

I just like ripping people who say stupid stuff in the media;), he's been right on some other stuff I suppose.

Not that bad, too negative IMO, and many people though Memphis would reach the playoffs thriller. THey have a really good team. They have lost like 10 games by three or less. And have beaten many good teams.

Memphis does not have a GOOD team. They have good young talent, but they have no veteran leadership or finishers in the 4th quarter. In a year or so Conley will be controlling the action every play in the 4th and that won't be as much of a problem, but they're just like Chicago 4 years ago pre playoffs. Loads of young talent but no backbone.
