Oh, I thought he was referring to hockeycentral..but now that I think about it, that's on Sportsnet.

People think Sportscentre mostly shows hockey? They definetley do a bit more in depth stuff on hockey (show clips from interviews after games, some analysis) but you need to realize we live in Canada. That's what people want to see.

Once again, that's what people want. This is a hockey country. Basketball is at best a 2B sport here in Canada.

I'm a Raptors fan, and I love basketball. But until the team gets better, and the sport as a whole gets more popular in Canada (due to guys like Wiggins, Bennett, etc.), That's how all sport shows in Canada will be.

If you want basketball highlights first, move to Lithuania.

Sucks for hockey fans. Rogers owns everything hockey related now. They are basically leasing HNIC to CBC now.

TSN is gonna have to start airing soccer and CHL hockey now lol, although I think SN holds the rights to that too lol.

Could be good for basketball though, doesnt really matter to me though cause I have tsn2

Why does it suck for hockey fans? Hockey fans don't get SN/CBC?

TSN has a ton of hockey content which is superior to what SN has ever done. Better analyists etc.

All those hockey shows TSN has will probably be phased out etc. They cant air hockey anymore so they may stop promoting it so hard.

SN will have to step up their game to match what TSN has been doing. Probably go on a hiring spree and poach some TSN guys.

Mehh, 98% of the people that station employs don't give two fucks about anything other than hockey. I've seen them run down the NBA on the air, even in the playoffs. I can't see them all of a sudden pimping out a sport that plays during the same time of the year as hockey unless it's Canada related. It's not like we're now going to see Jack Armstrong with his own show now.

Still say TSN will still show hockey quite a bit. KHL, OHL......whatever they can get their hands on.

Good on SN, they now own the blue jays rights and hockey. For someone who's always hated TSN this looks good on them.

TSN already lost the UEFA Champions League. Serie A is owned by BeInSport, along with Spanish La Liga, German Bundesliga, Dutch Erdevesie are on Goltv. Basically, all they got is the EPL, which shares it's rights with sportsnet/rogers. TSN has nothing left to offer but more basketball.

This is a disaster for TSN, and their exhaustive hockey coverage.

It`s good for SN but I hate their hockey coverage, I just hope they upgrade it. TSN is gonna be hurt badly by this.

Well, since now they have the rights and will be pimping the sport non stop they will obviously be making changes and step up. Gotta say though, i'd rather watch Leo Rautins than Mclean, Millard, Kypreos. Then again same can be said for that one eyed jack James Duthie and his crew(s). lol

Their coverage is extremely minimal though. Of course you'd hate it, it wasn't wall to wall. Well it will be now.

apparently sportnet will have their choice of games and essentially give CBC hand me downs. I have also heard that CBC won't get top playoff games and that semis and finals won't be on CBC. So hockey night in Canada won't be what we all know it as and that is a shame if you ask me.

Can't say i like the direction of this move either. When one channel has a monopoly it's just not good for the league. I think CFL going strictly to TSN was very bad for the league and took away a lot of opportunity for growth.

Only good thing is that it should make TSN to have better coverage with other sports.

When does this all go into effect btW?

that is a shame about CBC, they have the best coverage for games.

i wouldn`t be surprised if rogers phased out HNIC on CBC all together in 4 years tbh

A couple interesting comments from RealGm:

Quote:
Hockey Night in Canada has been awful since Bob Cole left. Their broadcast crew is terrible.
Quote:
MORE CBC GAMES? Their broadcasting is very bush league with some of the worst camera work I've ever seen. But this is really funny. Outside the NHL all TSN has is the CFL, which is completely worthless in ontario. Their now going to either going really into things like Curling an figure skating or will have to actually do something with their basketball rights.

I know when I watched hockey I loved CBC's coverage, but I have heard a couple people say it's gone downhill the last couple years. I used to love Bob Cole.

Anyhoo, I still think that this doesn't move the needle on basketball. SN was showing basketball, double headers......now that goes out the window for the most part. And TSN imo will just show more poker, curling, OHL, figure skating. If anything we'll see less NBA ball now.
