Jay Triano was on the fan this morning, here's a few points he touched on:

Talk about the moves and the new players.
Amir Johnson provides athleticism that they needed in the big man rotation.
Loves the moves that BC's made.
Says you can never have enough shooters, if he could change the roster at all it would be to add another shooter.

As a previous defender of Triano, I hate to hear these words. You need defenders, we have a boat load of great shooters. Ug.

Maybe he feels he can improve the defense through coaching?

I don't see how wanting more shooters translates into wanting more shots (mo' shats). I think it's more about wanting more good shots.

Well, Sam used to say all the time "you can never have enough shooters" and Jay coached under Sam for nearly 5yrs.

If we start hearing that he wants 100 shots put up per game...run for zeeee hills.

Well, if he thought he could make them better through coaching on D then why not? I'm just trying to understand his statement, I'm not claiming it as my own.

Defensive specialist? Lest we forget, he was the defensive specialist in Phoenix. Since when have they ever been known for defence.

However, I would like to take this opportunity to dispel any number of myths surrounding Iavaroni's tenure in Memphis. First, dude was a defensive specialist in Phoenix, not part of the offensive braintrust. His primary contribution on that end of things was working with big men on stuff like footwork and post moves

Iavaroni was schooled in the control system of Pat Riley in Miami, where he was an assistant coach, and is widely recognized as a defensive specialist, though Iavaroni has said he has come to appreciate the up-tempo offense run by Suns coach Mike D'Antoni

I'm sure Orlando feels very much the same way about shooters. That didn't keep them from playing defense.

+1, to win a championship the team must become versatile and play both ways. If they don't produce both ways like all the best teams in the league are doing right now, they will not contend. Period.

Defence wins games, offence is for the crowd.

Cheers

Guess we know what we're trading Banks for. Either a shooter or an open spot for one. Try Bruce Bowen...

Bruce Bowen will never come to Toronto. He wants to play for a contender right now. Unless he believes in us like a lot of fans do around here, I honestly see him going to Boston or retiring.

Cheers

After this season, we'll know for sure if the Bosh/Bargs frontcourt is going to work, and if it doesnt, at that point one of them has to go, and I'm hoping its Bargs for obvious reasons. But if Triano does get it to work, we'll have one hell of a starting lineup for a long long time as long as Derozan develops into the player everyone expects him to.

In other words, the Raptors climb to the top depends on how Bargs can play defence and rebound at the center position, and if it doesnt work BC's got a messy 2010 offseason ahead. If its broke, he better damn well fix it.

And yeah, enough of the shooter talk, we need athletic players who are versatile. We dont need more unathletic one dimensional players. If youre a good rotation player on a good team you can do at least 2-3 good things on the floor for your team.
