Triano & The Raptors Incensed With Celtics Poor Sportsmanship

I guess when your the East's elite, you can lack class and its OK if your Boston.

The classy thing to do would have been to run out the clock.

Instead, Rondo bounced one off the hardwood and Powe hammered home the lob for a dunk.

Raptors coach Jay Triano was incensed with the poor sportsmanship and admitted it took all his self restraint not to respond in an equally classless manner.

LITTLE CLASS

He wasn't the only Raptor upset with the late basket.

"I didn't think that was showing very much class doing that," guard Anthony Parker said. "I think we as a team and most of the league tries in that situation to dribble the clock out. I don't think we'll see them again for the rest of the year but that's something to remember."

Kris Humphries, who was not on the floor for the end of the game did not seem the least bit surprised that one of the Celtics would behave that way.

"They operate as an organization and do what they do," Humphries said, "but every organization that I have been a part of would not do that. I think that's a team attitude."

While there was no way either Rondo or Powe knew this at the time, the basket did wind up setting a franchise record for most points in an overtime with 22. The old mark of 21 was set Jan. 2, 1963 when the Celtics defeated San Francisco 135-120.

It's unfortunate. It's difficult to say it now since we just sort of look bitter after two tough losses. You expect some swagger and confidence, even some trash talk and slight arrogamce from the defending champs (they've earned it) but their lack of class has been a story all season. Garnett has dissapointed me the most. Not all of their players fit the mold, for example, Ray Allen seems to be the class act that he's been for his entire career.

On a related note...I was hoping to see a Jake Voskul ejection and impending suspension for breaking Scalabrines nose one way or another. Straight jab to the face while cutting through the key would have been my preference.

This isn't something new with the Celtics organization. Remember Gerald Green and Tony Allen from a few seasons ago?

Ouch. Once again Raptors end up the team against whom a new record is set...
THATS team attitude.
JO needs to get back. I saw like two fouls I liked in the game, and one of them was an accident (Graham biting on pumpfake and landing on Pierce hard, as he should always). Just stop being the team that gives up 81 points to a player!

Agreed Garnett is a prick and Ray Allen is all class. Not agreed with the second paragraph though. That's not something one would like to see in a sports game. Don't forget it is just a game.

Yea, that was a classy move.

If I was Jay, I'd focus more on my team and how we got to that station, in the first place.

We're constantly loosing big leads and shooting our selves in the foot.

Stuff like this gets out and it might not be the Raptors but I gurantee you, another team will make Boston regret it.

Hell, I was happy to see that not a single Raptor save for Chris went over there and shook their hand.

Jay was the man by calling that time out. That had to have pissed them off and it sure pissed off their fans.

Although I agree with Triano, I think I'd not complain about it in the media, thats just me. I would have done it on a more personal level at some point. The last thing this soft as warm butter team needs is the "cry baby" label.

Garnett is a huge dick, but he plays his game, and if you aren't going to stand up to him like a man on the court, you will lose, and if you lose, who gives a SHIT what you wanna cry about afterwards, because whining is for losers, period.

I like my team, I like our guy Bosh, he's a good dude, and a great player. But this kid has to stand up nd take whats his, people are NOT gonna give shit to him. Sam Mitchell said it in that famous practice quote, "I ain't giving you nothun Chris BOsh"!!!

Further to that, you wanna know why Toronto lost last night, and it ain't talent, it was desire. They try hard, sure, they run thier fastest, and the jump thier highest. We know they wanna win, but how much are they willing to give to get what they think is thiers? Are they willing to kill a guy on a pick? Are they willing to acually hit a guy on a screen and not roll early, EVERYTIME to avoid the contact???? Boston certainly is. Garnett himself floored Toronto guards on very questionable screens a few times, and when they wearnt illegal screens, they were still realy good ones. A lot of the Jackals on this messageboard squawk about how great opposing guards are at beating our Pg. Jose is shit you all say. Well take this example as something to watch for in the next few games, because I have been seeing it for a few years now, and I understand 100% whats wrong.

Rondo gets where he wants to go because where he wans to go is part of a planne dofence where he utilizes a REAL screen. There is zero chance to catch him, he can beat the big to the hole, or create a dangerous switch. Toronto, conversely, refuses to EVER set a proper screen, EVER. Toronto's PG's are constantly guarded throughout the screen sequence because the bigs roll away and just give the opposing guard a free pass. You wanna run an offence then run it, if you are too fucking soft to take a hit, don't play.

I hate Garnett for his extra curricular tongue waggling, and his ignorant actions from time to time, but I'd take that fucker 10 times outta 10 before our current superstar on toughness anf effort alone. He's a man, and he takes what he wants. If gets called on a screen, he' hits the fucker even harder on the next one and dares the Ref's to make the same call twice.

So ya, that dunk was cheap, but it was nothing compared to the embarrassent Toronto puts on themselves regularily. I ask the question again, are the willing to go the extra mile and playa little dirty????

We already have extensive footage from our franchise player being asked that exact question, we all remember his answer, he publicly tated he was not, it just wasn't his style. Nor it would seem, is it his style to wear a championship ring, or compete when it matters most, against the men he wants to be associated with as an elite NBA player.

Sour grapes by us. Yes it was classless, but so what. Get over it. There were a lot of positives in our 2-games with Boston. Like how Garnett cannot stop Bargnani anymore. Or how even arguably the quickest PG in the league (Rondo) has trouble keeping up with Roko.

Focus on the positives and move on.

Roko + a Jumpshot = pretty fucking good.

Kid is long, and quick, and most importantly, he's a competitor.

House talking all that shit to him, and he looks down at him and laughs.... priceless.

I wouldnt say anything to the media either, i would just send somebody out with 1 second left to lay a nice "screen" on somebody for the inbounds and not say a word about anything to anybody about that either.

Exactly what I was going to say. I remember the Gerald Green one like it was yesterday... nothing new here... same old Celtics - that's why I'm cheering against them, you would NEVER see a move like this by the Raptors.

this has been one of the most over looked aspect of the Raptors game. Every team knows they are a pnr team and work much harder at avoiding the contact than the Raptors work at actually setting the screen. Last night Garnett showed us that a pick can actually work in the nba and that we have to work harder at setting it than they do avoiding it.

The Raptors arent the 1st team to whine about the classless Celtics, Doc Rivers promotes this type of behaviour, look at last years final where he encouraged the Celtics to run up the score against the Lakers, very classy. Then all the crap with the Gatorade on the court with 5 mins to go.
This type of thuggish disrespect of other teams and the league wont stop until the Celtics likely meet the Cavs in the Eastern conference finals and Lebron 'shows no respect for human live' and slams that ball in Garnett's ugly grill. Did any of you see Gar'scum'nett go at Big Ben, i think not, if he trys half the shit he does against other teams against him, he would likely get knocked out, which i can see happening this season if the ref's dont shut his big ass mouth up. It seems that winning a championship has increased Garnetts ignorance by 10 fold and unfortunatley sets a horrible example for kids to follow, at least after his championship speach, Stern looks good for no longer allowing uneducated thugs to join the league straight from high school.
This is not just sour grapes i thought the Raptors played well for the most part, of course we lost and there were stretches in the game we looked pretty horrible but there were lots of positives to be taken from this game.
