Triano on FAN590

I just heard this interview with JT, and at 0:03:25 mark he mentions how BC is NOT going to give up a guy who might be good for us in couple of years.

Obviously they're talking about Bargnani, and just listening to his tone of voice, it's very hard to believe that BC is going to trade Bargnani.

Your thoughts....

I personally don't know what to think any more. I know Bargs has talent, but the organization has done very little to help this kid develop the right way.

I'd like to see him stay and I'd like to see the coaching staff utilize him properly. He's frustrating for them though and they have a whole team to worry aboot.

Look at it this way... Today...he's not needed because we have JO, but JO is gone in 2 years tops... so technically Bargnani doesn't have to be really good until 2010. So unless you can turn him into a young unusually good wing player(not likely) there's really no incentive to trade him...assuming you believe he will get consistantly good.

No one denies the kid has oodles of talent... at this point it's all in his head. O'Neal being here will help Bargnani develop no question. BC"s plan in getting JO was likely to make us better now, step up AB's development so that when JO comes off the books there would ideally be no drop-off. As much as that seems like a huge gamble at this point I think it's a sound plan.

Where he screwed up is (IMO) his choice of point guard given the current roster of wing players... or turn that around, keeping guys like Moon, Kapono, Parker and Graham instead of getting more Maggette, Stuckey type slashers.

I really couldn't see BC pulling the trigger on Bargs even at this point, i'm kind of relieved to see that i was right. Trust me, the kid has had me pulling my hair out as much as the next guy and yes, i'm getting sick to death watching him doing the same ol' fruitless thing. Part of me wants results, we're hurting right now, but i think it could really bite us in the ass if we give up on him now. Andrea has shown flashes of brilliance that have seemed to me even beyond brilliance...not something you'd usually see from a bum draft pick. At this point it is purely psychological. If BC isn't doing this already, spend as much money as possible on the best sports psychologist available and get our 7Ft stud back. I'd like to give him at least another season to prove himself. I'd also really, really hate to watch him go to another team and blossom into an allstar! I've got a feeling about him and i'm sure a lot of us do or at least have at some point. It isn't looking too good right now but i still have faith in the big guy. I'm all to aware of the stats and what you guys have been talking about here but i really don't think making this deal right now will work out for anyone except the other team.

This post makes alot of sence SWAN. I think you are bang on with the Bargs theory. Regarding our point guard vs our wing players again you are right on. If our point guard was a scorer lets say someone like AI then less focus would surround our wing play. It seems right now that our team is trying to make Jose more of scorer something thats not natural in his game. Our wing guys are not scorers. So what we have here are players that we expect to do something for our team that they have never done before in the NBA.

I worry about waiting on Bargnani - for Bargnani's sake. Did he not look pretty promising on both ends of the court pre-Triano? The guy was finishing games even if he wasn't starting them. Even just last week I was more impressed with Andrea's boxing out of Oden, albeit in limited minutes, than anyone else. I mean he kept the dude out of the paint. Personally, I could live with nothing more than losses if I could just see Bargnani return to the form where he was scoring big, rebounding big, and just plain playing big through big minutes of playing time. JO's minutes should be limited, Jake should just sit, and Bargnani should be told once again to stay away from the arc, and go play hard. It truly breaks my heart that he looked to be turning the corner and getting over whatever mental or physical obstacles were there, and now see him limited in how he gets used.

I think Colangelo would trade Bargnani today, if a good deal comes out. But it would have to be a proven nba star like RJ, not someone like outlaw or bellineli who would only be a band aid. But regardless of their intentions, they would never come out and say they're shopping andreea - so these interviews don't really hold much truth value ...

I think we should keep him. If we move him now itll be for a minor fix, which isnt going to help us in the long run anyways. Keep him until Messina comes in, and keep him so if Bosh leaves we can give him one last shot. Nobodys denying this guys talent, hes no Hoffa or Kwame or something where everyone knows theyre pieces of shite.

For the record I think one of the worst things Sam did during his run was his inconsitency concerning Bargs. I maintain taking him out for Rasho THREE games into the season was a terrible move. When you give a young player a starting position you dont take him out after one bad game. That was the true beginning of mentally broken Bargs.

Then he was mentally weak to begin with, perhaps to much so for the nba.

It was not about one bad game. Rasho and Jose were incompatible - if Rasho had to play alongside Jose he usually ended up with DNPs eventually. And there were health issues with Bargnani. All Bargnani has needed is a meaningful role, and he got loads of big shots under Sam - not inconsistency. Look at this season and you'll see that when Bargs was playing well he played meaningful minutes. That was always the case, and last season he actually got more leeway with terrible play than most of us would have allowed for,

Anyway - I was ecstatic with much of what Andrea did tonight, and I want him with a bigger role from here on out, and not in the shadow of JO. Call me crazy, but I think he's shown he's more committed to this team, win or lose.

""I'm not a champagne guy," the coach said. "I'm a beer guy and some red wine, but I think it's Coor Light tonight. Beer after a win tastes like champagne."
