Default Triano for COY?

After the first twenty games - posters on this forum were calling for Triano's head.

How do you feel about JT now?

He should be in the running. This team has the 2nd best record in the NBA in the last 2 months and the coach has to get some credit. It will all depend on the last 27 games. If we go 17-10 finishing with 48 wins he'll be right there in the running and imo likely win it.

It would be nice to see... success equals recongnition which equals respect throughout the league. Just ask Sam Mitchell.

Phil Jackson has no shot.

Are you kidding me the Lakers continue to win without Kobe, and Artest doesn't have his head up his ass this season. Phil Jackson has a huge chance.

Hollins from the Grizzlies, Brooks from OKC, McMillan from Blazers or Adelman of Rockets.

Triano is doing better but is not on the level of award winning greatness yet.

Brooks definitely has great shot and so does Adelman, people expected the Raptors to be where they are right now, but no one expected Houston or OKC. If Memphis makes the playoffs then give Hollins huge props as well.

It rarely if ever goes to a coach that's coaching the defending Champions who are the favourites to repeat. Not gonna happen, it usually goes to the coach of a team that has surprised some people.

In the running imo:

Jay Triano- Tor
Scott Brooks- OKC
Mike Woodson- Atlanta
Nate McMillan-Portland (look what he's done in Portland with half a roster)

IMO, JT has a shot.

I have to agree with Mike Woodson? being the main competition - that team is playing consistently well all year.

Triano has a shot, but I really don't him winning it because everyone predicted that Toronto would be where they are right now, in the middle of the pact. They also had one of the bigger pick up in the off season unlike OKC and Houston.

Everyone?

Many predicted we'd be around 8th or out of the playoffs. Even some in the Toronto media predicted a less then .500 record....see Fesfuck & Grange. Most in the US had us hovering around .500.

I agree that Brooks, Adelman and Hollins are worthy candidates for the award. In my opinion, Scott Skiles also deserves some consideration, especially if the Bucks manage to make the playoffs or win 40 games. Right now, Milwaukee is only 1 game out of a playoff spot. Given the roster that Skiles has to work with, he has done an impressive job of coaching. His team plays hard every night.

yeah Bucks are playing really tough

I've seen them as dark horses for a playoff spot for over a while, it's still possible but it will be close. Miami has an easy schedule I heard, Chicago seems on a roll and Charlotte looked strong vs Cleveland but is kind of a wild card I think.

I have to admit that I was one of those who predicted 0.500 would be a good season for the Raps given the fact that they started with 9 new faces on the team. As a matter of fact, I thought it would be a hugely successful season just to get 40 wins, and was not hopeful for a playoff berth.

We do not have 40 wins yet, and there is still a chance that we may not - but for the past two months - being the team with the 2nd best wining record is amazing - despite the poor play of our key signing (understandable, now that we know Turk's mother was so ill), and the future investment minutes given to the rookie. There are more than a few unexpected imporvments:

To wit:
- CB4's elevation to near elite (if not elite) level.
- JT's continually improving scoring - a real surprise here imo.
- AB's continually improving court awareness as demonstragted by improved help D.
- Wright's recent offensive improvement in addition to delivering the D at cluch times.
- Amir's surprising offense contribution and good defense
- Weems' offense and defense contributions - another surprise
- Rasho's scoring contribution - more than can be expected when called upon

IMHO - these unexpected improvments speaks well for the coaching staff's motivational skills, the utilization of the players in setting them up for success and bringing out the best the players have to offer.

Of course, it is not all JT as the COY should go to the whole coaching staff in recognition of their collective success.

Scott Brooks and Rick Adelman laugh at this thread.
