Thumbs up Triano Challenges Bosh to be all defensive team next year

Jay Triano - The FAN 590 Toronto - Audio on Demand

i like how jay is challenging Bosh to join the all defensive team next year

One thing that I found interesting last night watching Howard play is that he risked foul trouble to make plays, then that got me thinking about Chris Bosh the guy finishes games with 1 foul usually, which this also effects other bigs that play with him just for the fact that they ring up fouls on Oneal or Bargnani just so the fouls won't be drastic on each side, plus it shows Bosh isn't playing with agressiveness

and this guy is suppose to be our team leader and franchise player, Bosh has alot on his shoulders when it comes to our team being soft, quite frankly he is our softest player

also when was the last time Bosh gained 5 or 10 pounds of muscle, I'm not telling him to gain 20 or 30 pounds and change the way he plays but a little extra muscle with his speed won't hurt maybe he'll stay healthy because of it

Softest player? That's a bit of a stretch with this bunch of marshmellows.

Hell, I could be wrong, but Sam challenged Chris in similar ways as well if I remember correctly.

Sams basic MO was the same as he treated KG in Minny, of course he did the same thing.

Bosh finishes with one foul? I doubt that.

I think half of the fouls Howard collected last night were dumb offensive fouls.

And the defensive ones were mostly dumb as well.

5 of the 6 fouls Howard collected last night were straight up BS. The Joe Smith nudges and the Lebron late game puke worthy foul come to mind. Thats 3 right there. TNT analyzed it in Inside the NBA, it was pretty disgusting. The only one that was a foul was the one where he wrapped Lebron up.

If Triano can make Bosh look good defensively somehow I will not be so angry and want to hurt BC for signing another rookie.

In the 2008-2009 season, Bosh averaged 2.5 fouls and in his career he is averaging 2.6 fouls

Yeah he did and he failed. Bosh can't even deliver the good when he challenges himself. lol

Bosh wont make the defensive team. period.

Defense requires balls and a "I am better than you, and you cant score on me" attitude Bosh doesnt have it.

While that makes him a nice guy to have around, it doesnt make him a defensive force.

If Bosh's knees hold up, and the perimeter defense is improved, he has every chance of being a standout defender.

Thank you... i'm still shocked at how many posts are made where stats are guessed at when they're so accessible.

I'll say it now......
If Bosh could somehow turn his horrible defence around & become an all-nba defensive player then i would reconsider......i would offer him a max contract

But him being that type of defensive player just seems like such a remote possibility right now.

Yeah, he only takes pride on one side of the court.

The ironic thing about all this is that Chris came into the league as a shot blocker.

Joey Graham came in as a lock down defender and slasher. Things can change when you start playing with the big boys.

If Bosh gets stronger, he can definitely be a top defender (if he puts his mind to it).
While his lateral quickness is considered about average, he's very good at defending the perimeter and at least above average help defender (but could easily average ~2 blocks per game if he would commit to defense more).
Finally, his stamina is not where it needs to be, so a little conditioning would allow him to play harder throughout the season.

However, if Bosh makes the all nba defense team (which means he would have to overtake KG, Duncan, Josh Smith etc) at the #4 - I would support completely giving him a max contract in 2010.

Amen with regards to the conditioning. They all need to improve the conditioning, and they all need to buy into defense. When Triano points to Bosh, it's as a means of having him ensure that everyone else buys in. I think we saw signs of that happening already. Improved conditioning can take that a step further. And adding the right couple of guys could take them further yet.

Bosh was a standout defensive player with Team USA.

Why? Because he didn't have to worry about carrying the whole damn team on his back! Howard can afford to be as aggressive as he wants on D... because the reality of the situation is that he has 3 (when Nelson is back) great perimeter guys to pick up the slack for him.

Something Bosh has never had.

If Marion, Bargs and Jose are all back (and healthy) I'm sure that we'll see a marked improvement in his D this year.
