Triano: Bargs needs to be an anchor on D or he's going to lose minutes

From today's presser.

"Andrea was in a different role this year. Being the primary scorer and go to guy, and we talked today, he understands he has to get better at the defensive end, as far as the help side, and being aware and being an intimidator back there. The good teams I mentioned, everyone has a dominant guy in the back there. ... The good teams have that anchor back there. He's gotta become that for us. Is that asking a home-run hitter to bunt? Maybe. But he has to add that to his game if he's going to become successful. ... If not, I think the young players are going to start eating into his playing time."

After the end of season press conference this morning, I think Bargnani will never buy into defense. I believe one of his comments were:

"What I do is more complicated than defense and rebounding"

Andrea Bargnani - Apr. 14, 2011 | video | Raptors

seems like a rational, well thought out response.... I can appreciate that.

seems like a perfectly acceptable answer....

I wouldn't wan to be on any boat he's anchoring

So Triano says what he needs to be saying
Bargnani cuts it like it is

I want neither on the team

While I thought Bargnani sounded very bitter and defensive and was very curt in his answers, I watched the video twice and did not hear this comment. To me it sounded like he was saying the whole team needs to get better defensively. While true, the position he plays almost makes him the most important cog in the defensive system. He again, reiterated that he was a power forward and not a center. Lots of excuses...

Jay is all talk...he's had opportunities to hold players accountable and he's always failed...I can't see suddenly how that will change. It should change but I dont' buy that it will. He's talking so that he keeps his job, but actions speak louder than words and he's never stepped up.

On defense, Bargnani was guarding the Power Forwards. It was Amir and Ed Davis guarding the centers like Bogut, Dwight Howard, and Brook Lopez.

Here's an idea - forget about threatening to cut his minutes, and just trade him for someone that doesn't need such threats. Six years and this is the point we're at with this guy?

That's an argument to suggest as the defensive anchor, both Amir and Davis are not capable... let's trade them.

was there no Colangelo presser today? Or is that tomorrow?

Yep they don't even try. And that's not even as much of a stretch as the Bargnani in the lane position. Meaning it's not a stretch at all. That one's made yoga so much more enjoyable for me.

once again the only thing the barg supporters can defend him with is his ppg....
doesn't matter how many times we tell them its irrelevant, they just don't listen

Especially when his supporters turn around and call Bosh soft. That's laughable!

they don't listen.... says the guy that keeps posting the same thing...

another bash bargnani thread? Qu'elle surprise.

It's not like he said anything wrong at the presser. Everything he said was true.
