Treading Our way to the Trade Deadline. Part 2

This is part 2 of the standings. A Recap thus far:

The Raptors traded Rudy Gay in what was seen as a tanking move, we had then gone on to win 3 out of the 4 games including the lakers game which was the day he was traded on. The team is 4 games behind .500 at the arrival of D-Day. If the raptors don't do something to either push them over the top to crack top 3 or 4 in the playoffs, or trade more players to tank, this is going to be #TeamTreadmill. This is the reason the title is called Treading our way to the Trade deadline!

I will leave it as common standings for now, but if the tank or playoffs becomes evident, and the way this board goes I will start including other games that effect our standings like I did last year.

Standings:
1. Pacers 29-7
2. Heat 27-10
3. Raptors 19-17
4. Atlanta 20-18
5. Wizards 17-19

F**k the Eastern Conference is depressing this year.

There is a poll folks!

LX 12-17-2013 06:20 PM

Nicely done with the poll.

"Best trade available...even if it puts us in no man's land"

Well, if it really is the best trade available, then it would not put us in no man's land. Part of making good deals is timing, and if Masai is intent on asking too much for Lowry or Demar then this team will have another Chris Bosh situation on its hands. Lowry is leaving no matter what, and it is up to the GM to be realistic about just how much value he can bring. If this team can even squeeze one asset out of the guy then you take it.

I'm sure Ujiri intends to make a move very soon. That's a brutal stretch until the first week of January. Multiple big losing streaks are very probable. I would be shocked if Lowry is here after the 7th.

Because if it takes us too long it affects our record. IF he wants to tank, but is taking a while to make trades, we are too good atm to tank. That would mean by the time he makes a trade, it could be too late to aim for the worst record.

Vice versa if we are going for the playoffs, we should be aiming for a 4th seed or higher. Not 7-8 which could happen with such a tight eastern conference and if one of the teams picks up steam in the atlantic

MU has openly stated that the team is not going to end up in no man's land. Went with #2. Glad to see no one is going with #3.

Yeah I was having difficulty as well with that. I went with #2 eventually.

What were you guys thinking? What was wrong with it? So I have improvements for the next one

KoolAid 12-17-2013 08:13 PM

Personally, I say yes but not for the reason in the poll. I think he's trying to extract the most possible value which is good but we should not be in no man's land.

Yeah that was the issue I was having with #1 and the whole no man's land thing and that's why I didn't choose it. We all want the best possible value back obviously.

LX 12-17-2013 08:20 PM

I think too much weight is given to the idea of no man's land. Fact is that it might be damn near impossible to avoid it this season. That doesn't mean they are stuck there. I just took it to mean the possibility of being a low playoff seed, rather than the literal interpretation that Masai refers to.

I'd like to know whether he was answering a direct question. That might frame his answer.

It was meant to be like even if it were to cost us a 7-11 seed. That would take priority over blatantly tanking by excepting whatever for current players just to get bad

moremilk 12-17-2013 09:07 PM

the correct option is actually missing, I believe the right answer is yes, it's right to wait since no team is running away with the tank. However, there are dangers in waiting too, as many teams will start ramping up their tank and competition to unload will be fiercer as we get closer to the deadline ...

that was the could be in no mans land option. It is hard to go into detail on the poll becuase there is a 100 charc. limit, sorry.

You see but that's the thing though. those seeds are awfully close to 6th and 12th even. However, that may very well change in the coming weeks.

Dude, nobody wants to get rid of players for absolutely nothing. At least one of the following is what will be sought in deals: picks, prospects, and flexibility.

Indeed.
