Default Toronto Sun: The Wright Ingredient

And whether he's a starting shooting guard or a small forward coming off the bench or something else, Wright fully expects to have an impact.

"I'm sure everyone wants to start and I'd by lying if I said I didn't, but what matters is the impact you have on the game and how long you're out there," Wright said.

Colangelo admits that he wasn't really sure what he was getting when Wright was included in the summer deal that saw Shawn Marion head to Dallas while Wright and Devean George came to Toronto.

"The Antoine piece was a little bit of an addition to make the math work," Colangelo said. "In this case it was somewhat surprising that Antoine was that piece because here is a guy who started 53 games for the Mavs last year and we gladly took him.

"But I'm not sure even I realized what kind of perimeter defender he was, but it became very clear, very quickly after talking to Mavs head coach Rick Carlisle that (Antoine) is a tough kid, he's a great defender and defends multiple positions."

With an aging Jason Kidd at the point, the Mavs were in matchup hell last season when they played teams with quick point guards.

But Carlisle had so much faith in Wright's abilities to keep his man in front of him, that he put him on those point guards.

I'm excited to see what he could do to our perimeter defense. Really, he and the addition of Rasho and Evans make me think our second (?) unit will be tough to be beat defensively and well just beat you down and force the other team to play its starters more.

Love the bench as currently constructed.
Solid, Smart, Sound payers who will get gritty.

Love the thought of Wright closing games out with the main unit as well. Bring some grit and defense to the rest of the main line.

That's good .... he can defend quick point guards here as well, helping out mister Calderon.

This will be Wright's breakout year in the NBA. He's capable of significantly more offensively and will show that, this season. He's not only great defensively but he can put the ball on the floor and really drive the paint too. He's really good under the basket and loves to slash base line looking for quick passes. He's quick and gets out on the fast break. He's unselfish and moves the ball very well. He will be a glue guy who does all the little things that solidifies any good unit. His weakness is his long range shot, if he can learn to consistantly hit it he'll be off to the races and will net himself a pretty darn good contract.

Here's a similar article:

Quote:
IN OTTAWA -- It's a huge jump from salary ballast to key contributor on a potential playoff-bound team, but Antoine Wright is accustomed to huge jumps.

And if Toronto Raptors GM Bryan Colanagelo was surprised to see Wright's name thrown into the convoluted four-team, multiple sign-and-trade deal in July in order to "make the math work," Wright will be equally surprised if he doesn't have a measurable impact on his new team's fortunes.

Midway through the 2007-08 season, the 6-foot-7 Wright went from a struggling Nets team to join a Mavericks team trying to find its way back into the playoffs in the tough western conference.

Antoine Wright is a nice pickup and Triano's comments indicate the guy's still progressing in his game. Last year the lights came on for Wright in the playoffs - if that play continues he'll be amazing!

Surprisingly with the playoff pressure on, Antoine Wright keep his turnovers under control for those 10 games when it mattered most. Maybe it’s just a question of concentration?

Snooch, your coming around, i remember you wanting DD to play and Wright was not someone you liked much. I really like to see D.D come off the bench because we don't have enough scoring there if he doesn't. It would really balance out both units.
