Toronto Sun: US media clueless about Bosh

Quote:
Maybe if the members of the American media throwing these blanket statements around so cavalierly had been in the countless pre-game, post-game, pre-shootaround, post-practice scrums that those of us who are actually around Bosh on a near daily basis have been, they wouldn't be so quick to write off his Raptors future.

----------------------------

But Bosh has been so steadfastly adamant that he has not made up his mind about next season, let alone next week, that it's hard to accept that anyone who has spent any time looking into his future could dismiss it.

And yet the daily Bosh-is-gone articles and reports continue to appear.

This was about the start of it:

* Stephen A. Smith on his own blog defending statements he made two days earlier on ESPN.

Feb. 2, 2009: "My sources tell me Chris Bosh wants out of Toronto. Preferably before 2010, when he's free to opt out of his contract."

* Chad Ford, ESPN chat, Feb. 3, 2009.

"I can't speak to the veracity of Stephen A. Smith's report. However, the word around the league is that Bosh wants to leave."

"Bryan Colangelo says that Bosh hasn't told him that. Bosh has said he hasn't told Colangelo that. But what about Bosh's agent? Or someone else close to Bosh? Even if it's never been said, isn't the writing on the wall?"

And more recently:

* Peter Vecsey, New York Post, Jan. 10, 2010.

"It commonly is believed Bosh almost certain is to flee Toronto after this season, when he has the right to opt out of the final year ($17.1 million) of his contract."

* Aron Phillips, Jan. 8, 2010, Dime Magazine

"Make no mistake, there is no chance that Chris Bosh re-signs with Toronto this summer."

* Tim Legler, ESPN NBA analyst, Jan. 25, 2010

"Chris Bosh is not going to re-sign with Toronto. He hasn't come out and said that ... but his avoidance of the topic speaks volumes to me. He's a guy I know is not going to re-sign there."

* Bill Simmons, ESPN Radio, Jan. 11, 2010

"Can I make a prediction? I don't even think it's a prediction. (Chris Bosh) is leaving. He is leaving and he's going to play in a bigger market."
Quote:
"As long as Chris Bosh and his agent realize our intentions it really shouldn't matter," Colangelo said.

But it does matter. People get pissy when they feel like their home or even their home team are being summarily dismissed in the battle to attract or keep one of their best and brightest commodities.

And it's doubly pissy when most of that dismissal is coming from outside the country.

Toronto Raptors are a whipping boy for the NBA media. Always has been and until the Raptors do some serious winning it always well be.

I believe next year Marcus banks (5 mill?) and Reggie Evans (4 mill) is coming off the books... I could be wrong with the exact figures but they will be expiring contracts we could move around pre trade deadline.

I think we also have the MLE to spend on someone this off season.

Not to mention Jose Calderon as a starting caliber point guard is a great asset to have and is tradeable.

And theres always a chance MLSE dips into the luxury tax.

We've already built a more than stellar team.

If this team isn't good enough for Bosh then he can fuck right off.

this is the third installment of building around Bosh.

And even now this team is a stretch to get 5th seed and the four teams above us will besat us in the playoffs in under 6 games.

Something I can't really bet against. Its true a 2nd round birth would be like winning the championshp

A stretch to get 5th seed?? When they're the 5th seed currently and up 3games on 6th?

Boy you can't allow yourself to say one positive thing can you?

I understand not wanting to be too positive in order to not jinx anything or get your hopes up but, come on?

Some people wake up in the morning and see an empty glass and others wake up and see a full glass. In those rare cases some people wake and and see nothing but a really ugly fuckn glass.

Ha.
you know we're currently in 5th right?

I may be a bit negative or hard on certain players, but at least my harshness relies on some reality and unbias(ness). You seem to just go off blatant hatred.

I don't like to get to optomistic at times, for fear of the shoe to drop. But at times you gotta look at things and say wow, i think this could be good. I'm more optomistic about this team then i've been in years even moreso then 06-07. I still think that if we don't do anything by the deadline we'll likely have a tough time winning a playoff round though. But the overall future of the franchise looks good.

The team surprised me. Bargnani impressed me and overall its been a season more than I imagined. However; I'm like you I think passing the first round would be like winning it all. It would almost be like the Warriors upsetting the Mavs or the Knicks making the finals as an 8th seed.

it hurts to read this forum sometimes, sometimes it can be so god damn negative... I know MLSE are a bunch of douches, but you should be happy, they will go into the lux tax to pay for better players if we might actually win... everyone wants to be champs, Dill Hole Richard Peddie would be the first one jumping on the floor for a championship, well, maybe not, but still... btw, you gotta BELIEVE before you SEE it, not the other fuckin way. PIECE! =D

Alot of games left yet, and watch ouot for Charlotte and and Miami has the better schedule here on in.

I would not be surprised if this team ended up in 6th in the least.

Charlotte second half has them playing sub 500 teams 16 times(not including Chicago) and could could easily end up with around 45 wins(as long as they can beat just 2 over 500 teams teams and take care of business against sub 500 teams)

Miami has 17 games against sub 500 teams and 11 of last 12 games of season are against sub 500 teams(again not including Chicago)
they could easily end up 46 and 36 they only beat the bad teams and win just 2 games in that stretch against over 500 teams.

Toronto has only 14 games against sub 500 teams and again assuming they beat all of those teams and win 2 of the games against over 500 teams they will end up with a 46 and 36 record.

So thinking that it is not a sure thing that this team is still in fifth place aqt hte end of the season if far from being a stretch

Ok saying it's not a sure thing, and saying it's a stretch (which you stated) are two entirely different things, especially considering we're 3 games on on 6th as we speak.

And you said we have 14 games vs sub .500 teams when it's actually 15 (2 less then Miami), and considering we're currently 4.5 games ahead of Miami i don't know why you're throwing them in there.

Up coming 15 games vs sub .500 teams (currently under .500)

NJ x2
NY x2
Philly x2
GS x2
Washington
Chicago
Detroit
Clippers
Miami
Kings
Minnesota

= 15 (vs teams currently under .500)

15 games remaining vs teams over .500
