Default Toronto Sun: Pieces are in place for Raptors

Quote:
An air of curiosity is palpable in Raptorland as the club embarks on its 15th season in the NBA.

It'll be curious to see how Chris Bosh and Hedo Turkoglu play together.

It'll be curious to see how the Raptors defend, especially in low-scoring games when one has to simply grind out every possession.

It'll be curious to see how nine new faces mesh.

It'll be curious to see how many Bosh rumours surface as next summer's deadline draws nearer, a time when the team's franchise player has the right to exercise his negotiated right to become a free agent.

Curiously, the Raptors appear to have all the necessary pieces to not only nail down one of the eight playoff seeds in the Eastern Conference, but also contend for home court in the playoffs.

On paper, there is versatility, athleticism, toughness and veteran leadership.

The Raptors have options to go big or small, depending on matchups, to extend defences and spread the floor.

There is a lot to be optimistic about, but at the same time there is plenty to be concerned on too.

Bold Predictions from a guy that has yet to watch a full game on television:

An air of curiosity is palpable in Raptorland as the club embarks on its 15th season in the NBA.

It'll be curious to see how Chris Bosh and Hedo Turkoglu play together.

Bosh will do absolutely nothing different, in fact his tendancy to allow guys to push him out into the perimeter will push Hedo out of his comfort zone and make it far too easy to guard them both. This will create low FG% and a lack of rythym for a guy in Hedo, that RELIES upon it to survive. Bosh will attain his regular numbers in a world addicted to numbers, and get all star chatter, having the US media blame Toronto as a city for Bosh leaving.

It'll be curious to see how the Raptors defend, especially in low-scoring games when one has to simply grind out every possession.

Toronto will not be in any of these games, if they are it will be as a direct result of an injury to Bargnani or Bosh. In which case they will be about.500 in the ones they do see.

It'll be curious to see how nine new faces mesh.

Less an issue than some believe. The main contributors for poor team deence will most likely still cause problems, the addition of a defensive stiff like Hedo will only cloud issues more.

It'll be curious to see how many Bosh rumours surface as next summer's deadline draws nearer, a time when the team's franchise player has the right to exercise his negotiated right to become a free agent.

They will Start Mid November.

Curiously, the Raptors appear to have all the necessary pieces to not only nail down one of the eight playoff seeds in the Eastern Conference, but also contend for home court in the playoffs.

Is this true? Really? Two coaches later the starting trio of Bosh, Bargnani, and Calderon still lose far more than they win. Are thier pieces really that good???

On paper, there is versatility, athleticism, toughness and veteran leadership.

Not really. What there IS, is mid level guys who are being evaluated on what stood out in the past. Because Wright could play a little defence, does not make him a stopper. Because Bellinelli hit a few shits is a run and gun offence, does not make him a Sniper, and because Bosh hit for 20 and 10, this, does not make him Max money material.

The Raptors have options to go big or small, depending on matchups, to extend defences and spread the floor.

They also have the option to be decimated by the same theories.

There is a lot to be optimistic about, but at the same time there is plenty to be concerned on too.

This is the most accurate thing I have read so far!!!
