Default Toronto Sun: "D worries Triano"

Really, why is it we can't ever play intense basketball for a full 48 minutes? Is it a mental thing (hence the recent hire of the new doc) with these guys or conditioning? I've never been able to figure it out myself.

Beware injured Bucks

Triano and his coaching staff find themselves without a particular defensive focus heading into the game with the Bucks now that shooting guard Michael Redd is out for the season.

"Our focus on them before was always going to be how are we going to stop Redd," Triano said.

they don't have the horses in the backcourt to play 48 minutes of intense defense.

Isn't a coincidence that when Jay doesn't like the way Raptors play then Raptors actually wins?

It seems to me he's not the first head coach to question their commitment and heart over 48 minutes.

Beyond AP our backcourt consists of Moon/Graham/Kapono.......

You get my point? We suck!

Welcome to the NBA! There are maybe just a few teams that 'tries' to play hard defense for 48 minutes. Even they cannot do it every game. Watching NBA playoffs is exciting (usually). Before that it's all show business. European basketball games are of better quality, although you don't see many highlight dunks. Now don't flame me for saying this please.

Even AP struggles to be their defensively every night. It takes his full effort, it doesn't come naturally to him.

Heavy problems rely on Moon and Kapono

Moon is stupid and has no basketball IQ. He tries to shoot too much and is almost never found under the net where he belongs grabing rebounds and driving.

Kapono, well what can you say about him., Hes slow, cant jump, cant defend, cant shoot unless he is open. Really the guy cant do much. Last game Lopez compleaty undressed him on offence blowing by him i think 5 times in a row.

WTF does that mean?

It doesn't come naturally?

Defence, or intensity?

I'm with you if ya mean intensity, the defence part, is natural, or else he wouldn't have mae it this far in the sport.

Heart and toughness were less of a problem with Garbo and TJ in the roster. Bargnani is really starting to take on the Garbo characteristics though. It does take time for most players to figure out just what they have to bring to win games. Moon will never figure it out. Graham is finally getting a rough idea. Kapono would be a hell of a lot better if he had his head in the game all the time, and with the right guys around him he'd probably figure that out.

I think he's an offensive minded player who's having to be a defensive stopper because this team has no other options. Yeah you can be offensive minded and defensive minded and I could be completely wrong in regards to AP.
I just think for him to play great defense, which he does sometimes, it takes a tremendous amount of focus and thought. It doesn't come naturally to him like it does for the great defenders in this league. Despite giving it his all and playing some admirable defense, he'll still make some puzzling decisions from time to time on the defensive end, and one day he'll play great against a legit scorer, and then the next day get lit up by a guard without much of a reputation. Or he'll work his ass off, and play perfect defense with his feet, but his man is hitting shots because he doesn't do the things that throw people off their game.
AP wouldn't be the primary guard defender on most teams in the NBA, but with the Raptors, their isn't any other choice.
