Exclamation Toronto Star: Triano sees good in Raptors' loss

Quote:
There's nothing like a solid pre-season loss to put an NBA coach in a good mood.

It may seem entirely counter-intuitive to imagine Jay Triano would be pleased with what's transpired with the Raptors of late but coaches are an odd lot and sometimes they don't really think like regular folk.

So in the wake of a 101-82 pasting at the hands of the Boston Celtics at the Air Canada Centre Sunday afternoon, Triano was thinking of the good that can come of it.

"I kind of like it, I have their attention," he said. "If we win ugly right now, what are we going to get from it? They're going to come in feeling all good (Monday), I don't want them feeling good, I want them coming in ready to practise."

He might get used to finding a silver lining - they are going to struggle mightily during the first couple of months...

I can't emphasize enough the fact that we should not even consider ourselves on the same level as the Boston Celtics. We can expect to lose this game, preseason or not.

I really like what I see from the Raptors, don't let their preseason record fool you.

I doubt it. The first 3-4 weeks, probably. But by the end of November i say we'll be fine and things will fall into place.

Nine new faces, there are obviously going to be chemistry issues going into the season, there will be some struggles, and before the preseason started I think most people here seemed to be accepting of that fact; what the hell happened?

We've got good team guys on this squad, a roster full of guys who don't have to be "the man." Things have been ugly at moments, but that just has to be expected with a roster overhaul. Give it some time, things will work out.
