Toronto in the hunt for Damon Stoudamire

According to Chris Sheridan from ESPN, the Raps are in the hunt for "Mighty Mouse". But rumour has it he really wants to play for the Celtics. :(

The Celtics and Suns are thought to be interested in Stoudamire's services, though the Heat, Raptors and Nuggets have also been mentioned in trade rumors. Whether he's bought-out or traded, Stoudamire should have a new jersey in the very near future, and could end up with some value.

Stoudamire for Dixon? If he's a FA, there's no way Toronto can compete - BC would have to trade for him.
In that way, Memphis doesn't have to buy out Mighty Mouse and Dixon's contract expires at the end of the season anyways.

I agree, no way Toronto will get him if he's bought out. I have a feeling he'll go to Boston. He'll get more playing time than he would backing up Nash and IMO the Celts have a better chance at getting to the Finals in the East than the Suns do in the West.

I dont now if we want him. What will we do with him when Tj is back, the guy clearly wants a lot of minutes and his not going to find em in a team like To.

True Bel, but we can't assume either that Ford is going to come back without any continuing health issues. For all we know, TJ comes back and plays a game or two and has issues with his neck and back which puts everything at a screeching halt. :(

Sometimes you just have to gamble. ;)

Belsius 01-22-2008 10:25 AM

YEah, but I would search for a player thats a pure PG but can play the 2 also, so we can give him some minutes outside the PG position. Ukic is just perfect IMO. Too bad it will be difficult for him to come.

We do not need Damon. He is short, old, slow and can't shoot straight anymore. And he could never defend his position either.

Yes, he would be an upgrade over Dixon in terms of ball-handling, but not enough of an overall upgrade to bother.

+1

Mike is the smartest.

Mike and Benzo, who would you like to see as our third stringer? :)

Actually, I should've just posed the question to Mike because Benzo will just write +1 after whatever he says. ;)

+1 lol

I liked what he did while he was here three years ago and he's certainly appears to have improved jusdging by his impressive D League numbers.

I would loose all respect for BC if he gets little rat back...:mad::mad:

Hack... I will even start 'fire BC' movement... who is with me?

BTW... Does this mean TJ is gone for good?

moremilk 01-22-2008 01:14 PM

and we'd get him for free probably ... two 10 day contracts and then a non-guaranteed offer.

No, I just think BC is being overly cautious Ivan. :)

When TJ went downm the first name that popped into my head was Barrett. He's a pass first PG, unlike Martin. Is his rights owned by someone? Is that the reason he's not getting any interest?

LX 01-22-2008 02:34 PM

Damn - Roger Mason Jr. would look good here about now. Maybe Washington would love to have Dixon back? Too bad they need Mason more than we do.

MikeToronto 01-22-2008 04:30 PM

Mason, Barret - both are options, not sure how easy it'd be to obtain them.

In fact, we need a temporary solution anyway, until Ford's status is clearer. There are two ways one would go about it:

1. Suppose that BC knows for a fact that Ford will return to his regular game shape sooner rather than later (say, by All-Star break). Then we need a stop-gap measure who could then, depending on how well he plays, stay with the team as a third-stringer through the playoffs, likely at the "expense" of Martin finally gone for good.

2. If, on the other hand, BC has some info that leads him to believe that Ford is not coming back this season (or at all) - then he has to look for a solid backup point guard, preferably a vet, who is capable of playing at least 15 minutes per game without the offence going into the crapper. Brevin Knight comes to mind, as an example.

Damon fits none of the above scenarios. And in either case, Ukic should be brought over here next year to finally be either deemed worthy of our long-term plans or to be discarded.
