Default Too late for the playoffs?

Is it too late for a playoff push? I don't think anyone expected us to win 5 straight games, whether the teams suck or not. I also don't think that right now it's not too late to make that 8th seed being just 5 games behind it and the schedule turning in our favor, with much much more home games. Our team has gone through the tough times thankfully early and hopefully now how to close out their games better.

The good news:

1. Schedule is turning in our favor.
2. Team has gone through the growing pains and tough times early, hopefully now know how to close out games better.
3. Playing much better defence, mirroring last year.
4. Lowry isn't even back yet, so once he's healthy he has the potential to be a monster when he's back to 100%.
5. Calderon is playing great filling the void.
6. Amir/Ed tandem is playing great.
7. Bargnani is out, he was nothing but a useless cancer for majority of season(all won't agree).
8. T-Ross showing his strengths, getting more and more comfortable.

The bad news:

1. A lot of other East teams are suprising and playing way better than expected so that makes the playoffs that much harder. Ex - Atlanta, Chicago without D-Rose, Milwaukee, Philadelphia without Bynum. If those teams get their stars back at anytime, we're in for a lot of trouble.
2. How will Landry do when he gets playing time, no one knows. Personally am not a fan. Was injured though.
3. Still haven't played some powerhouses or teams that kill us like Lakers, Heat, Celtics, Hawks, Bulls.
4. Will Acy or Gray step up in the absense of our other bigs? Can Amir/Ed handle this much of a load? That probably will be a big deal. How long without Jonas?
5. Can they be consistent now with their defence?

Do you think we got a chance? I personally think we do. 5 games behind 8th ain't so bad.

i chose "no", because my biggest concern is the first bad news you mentioned; when i look at the teams we have to challenge for that 8th spot, the fact that some of them are still without their star players and the huge hole we are captured in (we are on a five game winning streak but STILL 9-19 ) i can't see a realistic scenario, in which we reach the playoffs this year

2/3 of the games left, its entirely in sight. hell they are only 4 wins out of the last spot. I have to cheer for this now or else they dont get a pick.

Well, I did not think they would make the playoffs initially. I always thought they would rack up around 38-40 wins with this team, although that may be arguably good enough for 8th in the East.

We still need to see what happens over the next few games. I am happy that they managed 5 wins in a row, but it can all come crashing down quickly.

We need to raise the bar higher. What are we, Leaf fans?

Making the playoffs would result in four demoralizing beatings at the hands of the Knicks or Heat. What good is that?

I want to make the playoffs when we have the weapons to make it a good fight.

but wouldn't smelling postseason air be really really good for the developing of derozan, davis, jv and ross? and what do we have to lose? a pick we wouldn't get anyway?

If we can make a solid trade that dramatically improves our team I could see us sneaking in with some help from some other teams.... we'll see.

So many unknowns and wildcards in terms of the roster.

As TORap is saying, a trade (or two) could make us even better if we find the right fit. But the flip side of that, is having to go through more "developing chemistry" with new players, compounded by Lowry taking over for Jose (who is probably involved in said trade).

If we had a situation where Lowry was patient and willing to come off the bench for an extended period of time, I might actually feel better about our chances. I have no idea what goes on behind closed doors but that seems unlikely. If the Raps did that, they could keep some consistentcy with what's working while improving our bench even more. But that's probably not going to happen.

My gut says no, and part of that comes from recognizing it's not the most important thing to happen for this team this season. That would be lessening the wildcards Bill noted, and gain some sense of a true core that can be built around. But it's not too late at this point either

I think we get 7th or 8th seed maybe even 6th if lowry produces when he's back, also why haven't the Raptors played Landry yet? Like I know they're bringing him back slowly but why haven't they given him even like 5 minutes a game? Does anybody know?

OP and 12 others on the koolaid again.

Guys, we need to go 32-22 (.688) in the last 54 games just to break even, which certainly won't cut it this year. The 8th seed will have 43-45 wins. The streak has been great and if they do want even an outside shot at getting back to .500 now would obviously be the best chance, but with JV out and SAS, OKC, POR, MIL, and PHI on the horizon, we're looking ripe for a return to the drudgery that is being a Raptors fan. Thank God there's more sense on this board in general though; RealGM is so bipolar it scares me and the average poster has the long term memory of a goldfish.

I'm actually planning to make a thread just to count the losses until .500 and playoffs are a mathematical impossibility just to dream crush them.
