Tom Anselmi steps down

Quote:

The bloodletting at MLSE continued Friday as coo Tom Anselmi resigned.

After being with the company since 1996, the long-time executive announced via a release on the corporate website.

ďI am from this community, and Iím a huge fan of our teams, so being part of the growth of this organization into one that is admired in the industry has been a real privilege,Ē said Anselmi. ďIím very proud of our people and all that weíve been able to accomplish. Iím also excited about the next chapter of my career and wish the organization and our fans all the best for the coming season.Ē

His bio still appears on the MLSE website, but will not last forever. You can see it here.

He is the latest in a string of high profile employees to leave the team in 2013. GM Brian Burke of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Bryan Colangelo of the Toronto Raptors left earlier this year. Toronto FC canned its president Kevin Payne earlier this week.

The moves have been credited to new MLSE boss Tim Leiweke, who has been nothing short of a Terminator-type house cleaner since being hired April 26.

Anselmiís last day will be next Friday the 13th of Sept. Bad luck indeed.

On Twitter the over-riding sentiment seems to focus on Anselmiís nice-guy persona. Too bad it didnít help in the new lionís den that is MLSE since head trainer Leiweke took over.
