Raps need to pick up the slack

Quote:
Mitchell's message, while delivered to the entire team, was particularly targeted at his two point guards who both have been playing somewhat out of character since Bosh went down. Calderon's play until Wednesday's win -- when he returned to form with 13 assists, nine points and just one rebound -- had been lagging for the past couple of weeks, so it clearly wasn't all Bosh's absence. However, both Calderon and T.J. Ford's sudden inability to make use of the other four Raptors on the floor certainly hit a low point since that loss to Indiana and Bosh's departure coincided.

"We told Jose and T.J. 'Just run the team, trust your teammates, don't try to do too much, just let your teammates have it.' Just run our stuff, execute and make sure we move the ball and get good shots and if we get good shots, we should make them," Mitchell said.
'Greed is good' is the new mantra for NBA players

Quote:
Avarice, ambition and arrogance have become the NBA's unspoken triple double, qualities that recently surfaced in the wake of players who have brazenly thumbed their nose at lucrative extensions or publicly announced they were opting out of mega-million-dollar deals.
AROUND THE RIM

Quote:
Coming up huge in Bosh's absence but probably not getting the proper credit because a lot of his production has come in losses, has been shooting guard Anthony Parker. While most of his teammates' production without Bosh has lagged, Parker has picked up some of the slack. In the four games (we'll include the Indiana game since Bosh played less than a quarter) Bosh has missed, Parker is averaging 20 points a night ... With the Raptors not getting back until dinner time last night, Andrea Bargnani will not be re-examined until today. He is likely looking at some time in a dentist's chair after two teeth were loosened thanks to a vicious Alexander Johnson elbow.
Dual-role Riley to scout NCAA

Quote:
Riley said yesterday that "there's a possibility" he will "miss one or two" upcoming Heat games because he wants to travel to the various NCAA conference tournaments and start seeing players who'll potentially be in this year's draft.
Butler to practise

Quote:
"I am trying to get back out there," the two-time all-star said yesterday. "I am going to wait until next week to start participating in practices, and I am going to play it by ear. My body is going to determine whether I am able to play or not."

Raptors' Ford . . . from insufferable to invaluable

Quote:
"T.J.'s growing and maturing," said Martin, the reservist who doubles as a locker room counsellor. "He's learning that you have to adapt to what the team needs. You have to do what's best for the team to win, and at the end of the day, individual accolades will come."
Quote:
Said Martin of Ford: "He's been through a lot this year, had to make some tough choices, and I think part of coming back ... sometimes you don't factor in how important the mental aspect is. You can still believe you can leap tall buildings, but there's a bigger perspective. There's other people to consider. ... He's still young and he's still growing.

"He'll be a better man at 30 than he is at 24. We all are."
Wizards, Sonics should offer extra motivation

Quote:
The extra motivation for Toronto should come from wanting to pay back their opponents for what went on earlier this season.

The last time they faced the Wizards, Toronto let them off the hook despite the Wizards missing both Caron Butler and Gilbert Arenas. Butler was a late scratch for that late-January game and whether or not that gave Toronto a false sense of security, the Raptors played poorly for most of the night and lost in overtime.

And the struggling Sonics, who had lost four of five coming into the game, drilled the Raptors 123-115 just before Christmas, another road game Toronto will regret not taking full advantage of.

Bosh not expected back any time soon

Quote:
The Raptors will be home for two games before leaving on a formidable trip against Western Conference teams, and Colangelo allowed that the Raptors may be without their best player when they head out.

"There is the possibility he's going to miss all or some of that trip," the GM said.

I've been a starter my whole life. Even if someone told me I wasn't a starter, I guarantee you, I'll be the starter. It's no disrespect to Jose or anybody

Oh, of course. He was awesome.

I'd say TJ seems like a pretty good guy. I've heard him in interviews on the radio. he seems pretty positive.

I'm just hoping that this last display minus the miami game was a blip and he shapes up his act.

Benzo thinks T.J suffers from "little mans disease".

for the life of me, i don't understand why sam doesn't sit Tj down and tel it to him straight. There is no chance of him starting becasue Jose is better suited for that damn role. If Tj would focus his energy into being the best backup PG he can, the team would benefit A LOT. Someone needs to tell it to him straight. I'm afraid he's reverted back tohis old ways of thinking because some ppl (John Lucas?) have been in his ear saying he should be a starter. I am wondering now what the pre-miami game talk btw him and Sam was about.
