Just keeping the seat warm....

Late Rally Fizzles Out

Quote:
Climbing out of a hole they dug with a dozen minutes of lifeless, listless play to take a fourth-quarter lead, the Raptors couldn't hang on, dropping a 117-106 decision to the Golden State Warriors in a game that was lost as much in the first quarter as it was in the final frenetic few minutes.
Doug Smith Blog

Quote:
Bargnaniís in the low post, has the smaller Mickael Pietrus on him, backs him down patiently and then calmly hits a fadeaway jumper. Thatís a big man post move and shows that maybe all that work in practice with Alex English is going to pay off.

Quietly, the kidís been pretty good lately, hasnít he?

Raps Look Tired In Loss

Quote:
OAKLAND -- At their best, the Raptors are not capable of giving away a quarter, and they had that point hammered home again last night.

Just 51/2 minutes into last night's game, the Raps were down by 14 and, while they recovered to eventually take a lead midway through the fourth quarter, their early lapses came back to haunt them in a 117-106 loss to the Golden State Warriors.

T.J. showing signs he wants that starting job back

Quote:
T.J. Ford knows how it goes. You lose your spot, you fight your way back.

Ford began the season as the starting point guard on this Raptors. Injuries and the stellar play of Jose Calderon in his absence combined to take it away from him.

Ford says he is not bitter about this but, at the same time, it's not in his competitive nature to accept it, either.

GM to see Love in L.A.

Quote:
Staying behind in L.A. to take in the Pac 10 Conference tournament were president and GM Bryan Colangelo, assistant GM Maurizio Gherardini and Masai Ujiri, the team's director of global scouting. The Pac 10 tournament is practically one-stop shopping this year for NBA management types looking to nail down their pecking order for the upcoming draft.

More road woes for Raptors

Quote:
The Golden State Warriors play at a breakneck pace. They score, score again, and score some more, lifting shots from all places on the floor and generally luring opponents into a helter-skelter game - emphasis on hell.

It's an entertaining style, even if it is sometimes ugly-entertaining, more ragged than artistic.
Michael Grange Blog:

Quote:
Well, you canít fault the Raptors for their effort on the first two games of this trip. Against lesser teams they could easily be 2-0. But theyíre playing 50+ win teams with elite talent, and itís shown late in games.

Guards Davis, Ellis KO Raptors

Quote:
"A lot of it depends on us," Nelson said. "We have to be able to play our game, and hopefully we'll be able to do that. We've done a good job all season of playing our game, no matter what the opposition."

Doug Smith has quickly went from the butt of my jokes to my favourite Raps reporter.

Quote:
Lots of T.J. angst out there, and more than a little hate. Yes, he wasn’t very good dominating the ball in the fourth quarter; yes, he should have got the others involved more often; yes, he took some crazy shots. No, he wasn’t particularly good, as you’ve heard both Sam and AP hint at.

But there can be a balance, and when he finds it, it’ll be like last season when, if you all recall, pretty darn good and so was the team.

Right now, it’s a struggle but the first step in rehab is admitting you’ve got a problem and maybe last night was that step.

And there has to be some change in style; it's not like there are any other options this season. Jose's not playing particularly well and it's not like there's anywhere else to turn. Fans can only hope something clicks, or Sam gets to TJ to change -- just slightly -- his ball dominance at crunch time. -

I agree...what I like about Doug's post there is he's trying to fix the problem rather than ship it out of town. So quickly we forget how good this team was last year, with less talent after such a horrible start... we just haven't had any stretches of health this year, and Garbo's been missed more than we can imagine to really see what this team has. The answer isn't who we can get rid of it's how can we get them healthy and to gel in time for the playoffs.
