Ford, Raps second to none

Quote:

An article in yesterday's L.A. Times asked the question, are the Lakers reserves the best second unit in the west?

Lead by point guard Jordan Farmar, three-point shooter Sasha Vujacic, and the tireless Ronny Turiaf, the article made the point that no other second unit in the west had that kind of three-headed monster coming off it's bench.
Quote:

The Raptors would put the trio of Ford, Jason Kapono and Carlos Delfino up against the Lakers threesome. Throw in an experienced centre with the soft hands of a Rasho Nesterovich and one can easily make the argument that, accepting the Lakers subs are indeed the class of the west, the Raptors have to be considered a strong possibility as the best in the NBA.
Clippers finally waive Cassell

Quote:

The last-place Clippers waived injury-prone Sam Cassell yesterday, clearing the way for him to join another team, possibly the Boston Celtics.

Getting down to the real nitty-gritty: Raptors version

Quote:

After tonight's home game against the Indiana Pacers, Toronto begins an arduous stretch of eight road games in their next 10, a series of encounters that will get them into the middle of a difficult March.
Raps' Garbajosa takes a small step

Quote:

In a small but psychologically significant moment, the injured Raptor forward got some shots up after practice and even though he took them standing flat-footed and had to hop from spot to spot around the key, it was a mini-milestone.
Enduring friendship emerges from collision

Quote:

T.J. Ford was congratulated by Minnesota's Mark Madsen at the end of Wednesday's Raptor victory over the Timberwolves.

It was Madsen who collided with Ford during a game in February 2004 that caused the first – and most serious – injury to Ford's spinal column.
Indiana drawing some more unwanted attention

Quote:

The Indiana Pacers are facing another wave of unwanted attention with the arrest of a murder suspect after he had been at the home of one player and a reported rape at the home of another.

While police say forward Shawne Williams and guard Marquis Daniels were not involved in either case, both have been in recent legal trouble and the incidents frustrate a team trying to improve its tarnished image.

Raptors Notebook: Garbajosa shoots … and hops!

Quote:

“The days are going by, and I am feeling better, and it is the first and second day that I can stand a little bit,” Garbajosa said. “And it is not a big change, but for me it is really important after being on crutches for a few months. I have to be still on crutches, but we are going a small step ahead.”
Raptors the linguistic champs of the NBA

Quote:

And so every day after practice in his rookie season he went to school for two hours of intensive, one-on-one English lessons. Now he chirps easily and endearingly in his new tongue, using expressions - though much less than he once did - such as "friends" when describing his "teammates."

"If you are not playing point guard, I think all you need is the basketball stuff - like pick and rolls - and you are all right," he says. "But as a point guard I need to talk with the coach a lot, and I need to communicate with my teammates about what I want them to do.
NBA: Raptors in tough for East's third seed

Quote:

Toronto has one game left against both Orlando and Cleveland, while the Cavaliers and Magic face each other twice. For tie-breaker purposes, Cleveland leads Toronto in their season-series 2-1; the Raptors and Magic have split their first two games this year; and Cleveland and Orlando have split two games.

One small step for Garbajosa is mentally important

Quote:

The big Spanish forward laid down his crutches and hopped on one foot toward one of the baskets in the Air Canada Centre practice area and gently stood on two feet before ever so carefully shooting some necessarily standstill 15-footers.

With assistant coach Jay Triano snagging rebounds, Garbajosa would take a few shots and hop, hop, hop to the next spot and take a few more.

Sun photographers might be the worst around.

Did they even pass that photo around the office? Did anyone notice she looks retarded??

Crazy. Lang nailed it. Hilarious.
