Kobe toys with Raps

Quote:
Bryant took nine shots that didn't find the mark but it was the 19 that did that had everyone from Sam Mitchell to Andrea Bargnani singing his praises.

"He was scoring all the time," Bargnani said. "The times we did stop him he found the open man. They deserved to win."
Moon month's top rook

Quote:
Even by his own admission it wasn't his best month in the NBA, but it's not like Jamario Moon was going to turn down the honour.

Moon yesterday was named Rookie of the Month for January by the NBA, the seventh player in Raptors history to achieve the honour following the two Andrea Bargnani had early last year.
Pau's arrival pleases Kobe

Quote:
"This shows a level of commitment that I have questioned over the summer," Bryant said. "I have to tip my hat to Buss and Mitch for going for it with this and now it's on us to go out there and work hard."

Gasol was on his way back to Los Angeles yesterday for a physical so he wasn't available last night nor were centre Kwame Brown or point guard Javaris Crittenton, who went to the Memphis Grizzlies in the trade along with the draft rights to Gasol's brother, Marc, and guard Aaron McKie. The Grizzlies also get a pair of first- round picks in the deal.

Kobe puts on one-man spectacular

Quote:
Kobe Bryant puts on a killer crossover move to leave Carlos Delfino guarding air, splits a couple of Raptor defenders none of whom were giving Delfino the help he needed and ends the play with a dunk.

There were myriad other moments of exceptional play, too; a handful of shots here, a few assists there, as Bryant put on a brilliant display at the Air Canada Centre last night, scorching the Raptors for 46 points as the Los Angeles Lakers pulled away for a 121-101 victory before a sold-out house of 19,800.

"He's Kobe," was how Parker summed it up, and he probably didn't need to say much more.
Gasol to Lakers a gift for hoop fans

Quote:
For anybody else who loves the game, Gasol to L.A. is a gift. Above all, it greatly increases the chances that the greatest show in the game Bryant on a roll in the playoffs will be running in prime time for at least a few memorable weeks in the spring.

Kobe crushes Raptors

Quote:
His most spectacular, perhaps, was another three-pointer in the dying minutes of the third quarter. He hit an absurdly difficult for anyone else at least fall-away shot from the right-hand corner that stunted a Raptors rally and set the tone for the Lakers' breakaway fourth quarter.

"It was a big momentum shot," said Bryant, whose game-high 46 points came on 19-of-28 shooting. "It was one of those shots that can kind of take the air out of the building and, fortunately for me, it went in."

Bryant shines in Lakers rout

Quote:
Kobe Bryant was in inspired form yet again, scoring 46 points and collecting seven rebounds and five assists as the Los Angeles Lakers hammered the Toronto Raptors 121-101 at the Air Canada Centre.

Kobe makes up for short-handed roster

Quote:
Bryant dunked numerous times, springing past the Raptors (25-21) again and again. After one dunk, he spread his arms and glided across the court like an airplane, a sequence he hadn't shown since last season.

"I think what gave us a little extra pop was the fact we were playing with eight guys," he said. "We were really undermanned and we understood that this was a game we had to get. With that being said, I think everybody is a little bit excited about the great opportunity we have in front of ourselves."
