convinced that Raptors fans are only happy when they're unhappy.

Marion Era starts ugly

Quote:
"I think we were just missing each other, the timing was off and everything else," said Marion, who finished with 10 points on 4-for-9 shooting with six rebounds and six assists in 40 minutes. "I saw some good things out there and some things we need to work on."

The good things were an impressive tempo to start the game, the things that need work are sustaining such effort. After being down by just one after a quarter, Toronto managed to make only 20 of its 62 field goal attempts in a sluggish final three quarters to fall to 21-35 on the season.

"We have to learn each other on the floor and get comfortable with each other and keep this thing going energy-wise, I think our energy level was great at times," said Marion. "At times we kind of got discombobulated out there, everybody wasn't talking."

Getting to know ya

Quote:
Marion helped limit King James to four points in the first half, but last night's 93-76 final resulted from a home team that lacked cohesion and might do so for days to come.

"You don't want to make excuses, but that's the reality of our situation," guard Anthony Parker said. "Guys are in different positions and different situations."
Marion good fit, but no saviour

Quote:
On his first touch as a Raptor, Shawn Marion showed a soft touch by scoring over LeBron James on a turnaround jumper.

Then came a drive to the hole when Marion took Wally Szczerbiak off the dribble.

There were glimpses and flashes of what Marion will bring to the Raptors at both ends of the floor, but he's far from a saviour.

In the euphoria that greeted last Friday's trade with the Miami Heat that brought Marion and Marcus Banks to Hogtown, too many people held on to this belief that Marion would somehow change the fortunes of the foundering hoopsters.

He won't and last night's debut reinforced it.

Marion makes losing start

Quote:
Triano said he would keep it simple with Marion on Wednesday.

"We haven't had a lot of time, we've had shootaround and one practice to try to get stuff in, so we basically said 'rebound, get down the floor, run. . . just keep moving.' and that's what he does best anyways," Triano said before the game. "We tried to teach him a small number of plays so when we do have to run a play, he's in the right place and doesn't get in anybody's way."
Bosh casts long shadow in absentia

Quote:
And when Anthony Parker was sent sprawling by James with five minutes left, Triano asked loudly: "What the [expletive deleted] are you looking at?" and was nailed with a double technical, his first ejection as the Raptors' interim head coach.

It was the only standing ovation of the night.

Triano was asked later if it was the officiating or his team's shooting that was the cause of his anger.

"Will I get fined if I say the officiating?" he responded.

Numbers aside, Cavaliers too much for Bosh-less Raptors

Quote:
"There's a few good defensive players in our league," said LeBron. "Tayshaun Prince, Ron Artest, Shawn Marion, he's a pretty good defender. Bruce Bowen is really good; Shane Battier is good, also, a very good defender. James Posey."

Defense carries Cavs to win

Quote:
''We talked about it yesterday. We worked on it yesterday. It was an emphasis throughout the game,'' Cavs coach Mike Brown said of his team's defensive play. ''We feel we have to get back to the way we're capable of defending not just doing our assignments correctly but making our opponents feel us.''

James said that turning up the defense at this point of the season is particularly important for the Cavs.

''Coach has been harping on it and we know that momentum is everything going into the stretch run, going into the playoffs, especially defensively,'' he said.

Who knows?

She might not even be engaged. It might be just a smoke screen to ward off the creeps.
