Image is everything

"I'd rather do it myself," Bosh said. "I know myself better than anybody else or anybody that I could hire knows me. You can hire someone to mould you and shape you but this is one I can take in the direction I want to go. Someone could tell me I want to go this route and it may even be good for me but I don't think I would have as much fun doing it."

For Bosh, control is key. He has taken the opportunity that playing in Canada, out of the mainstream NBA spotlight, to make sure he is in control of his image.
East gets best of West

Led by LeBron James, who nailed down his second all-star game MVP title in the past three years, the East came out firing early and often building a nine point lead by the half on their way to a 134-128 win.

Nevermind that only five teams in the Eastern Conference are above .500 at this point in the season, while in the West there are only five teams below than .500, the East came looking for some payback and got it.

East tames beast of West

Had it not been for the brilliance of LeBron James, Paul could very well have carried the Western Conference to a dramatic come-from-behind victory in the NBA All-Star Game that would have capped a New Orleans weekend perfectly.
Basketball notes

Under new terms of the deal, Kidd and Malik Allen are headed to Dallas, with Keith Van Horn and Trenton Hassell now in the deal from the Mavs to replace Devean George and Jerry Stackhouse.

Big Easy the big winner

"Given the nature of the situation that the city had to fight through, the tragedies that happened in the past, this is a little more special because this is part of the rebuilding process," said Toronto Raptors forward Chris Bosh, who started in place of injured Boston Celtic Kevin Garnett and scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds in 21 minutes.

"You have to start somewhere and I think this game brings a lot of attention to the city," Bosh added.
James named all-star game MVP

He danced along with a jazz band playing during pre-game introductions, then went down the line and high-fived the rest of the East players at the completion of the national anthem.

"The East did a great job man, we got a big lead in the first half and we withstood their run in the fourth quarter," James said after accepting the MVP trophy from NBA commissioner David Stern. "We made plays down the stretch."
Kidd trade to Dallas back on

The new deal — as reported by various media outlets Sunday night, all citing anonymous sources — has Kidd and forward Malik Allen going to Dallas for point guard Devin Harris, centre DeSagana Diop and swingman Maurice Ager, plus a few new pieces: retired forward Keith Van Horn and Trenton Hassell.

New jersey also will get two first-round draft picks and $3-million (U.S.).

Jason Kapono will put the big, silver trophy in his locker at the Air Canada Centre, but he's worried he might make his teammates jealous. He picked up the hardware on Saturday after winning his second consecutive NBA three-point shooting contest.

"I think it would upset a few guys," said Kapono, the Toronto Raptors' sharpshooter whose deadpan is nearly as deadly as his three-point stroke. "We have a very talented team with a lot of guys who shoot threes. I don't want them all staring at my trophy because it might screw them up a little bit."

MVP James leads East to exciting win

After hometown hero Chris Paul's 3-pointer tied the game at 125-125 with 1:35 left, James answered with his signature high-rising slam at the other end, slicing through several defenders.
NBA: Everybody loves Chris

"Well, I love Bosh's game," said Rivers. "I don't think he gets the attention that he probably should get, you know. Just seems like all the other young guys when you mention the [Dwyane] Wades and the Carmelo [Anthonys], you barely hear Bosh's name with them, and it should be with them.
Howard dazzles in Dunk Contest

"I really wanted to win it for all of the big men and all the people in general," Howard said. "Because everybody said I couldn't do it, and I believe in myself and I believe I could do it. That's all I was saying in my head. ‘I'm going to win the dunk contest.'"

The Toronto Maple Leafs: Reading from the Book of Raptor

Now for the past few months, Steve has been chastising the Leafs as to how they should be following the Toronto Raptors business model and hiring a "Bryan Colangelo-type hockey mind".

So let's look at what the Raptors did.
NBA 2007-08 Season's First-Half Duds

So who are the Top 12 Dud's? Let's find out.

12. Andrea Bargnani (Toronto Raptors)

There were some high expectations for Andrea Bargnani coming off a successful rookie season. However Bargnani, who has been compared to Dirk Nowitzki, has gotten off to a rough first-half of the season with injuries and inconsistency that put him in-and-out of the starting line-up. His numbers aren’t as good as last season, but he has shown some life in his last seven games by averaging 17.9 ppg. His shooting and dribbling abilities normally give him a mismatch against other big men, and he is still a 3-point threat. Hopefully he can continue to be aggressive for the Raptors and doesn’t regress back to his softness in the second half.
